I have been working at US Department of Defense full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

One of the pros of working for the Department of Defense is job security. Despite furloughs and budget cuts, the mission is essential to the government and can be a fulfilling agency to work for.

    Cons

Work-life balance can sometimes be an issue; however, with federal holidays and liberal leave standards it is manageable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand the needs and value of their people, entrust the expertise and skills of those working for them.

I have been working at US Department of Defense

    Pros

You meet a lot of interesting people and get to work with fascinating material. Let's not forget that you also get a security clearance in the end.

    Cons

It varies widely from office to office, and even within the office depending on who you're working for. Sometimes the work is mindless, even if you're working with interesting material. Little to no chance of getting a job unless you're a PMF. Unpaid.
