OK place to work. Somewhat worried at present with the pending Sysco acquisition.

I have been working at US Foods full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The company has had direction, the problem is we don't know where that direction is headed with the pending Sysco acquisition of us.

    Cons

Benefits have really gone down hill. I'm sure some of that is Obamacare, but they only have terrible options left.
Working at one of the support offices, it can feel like your contributions don't matter at all.
Pending Sysco acquisition makes working here very sketchy. We don't know which direction the new company will go, or who could be let go very soon.
The company is terrible when it comes to providing formal training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to people. Get better benefits. We need a defined promotion path, and training.

    Pros

My division is one top the best in the country. Great people, good culture.

    Cons

Training support horrible. No follow up or urgency - just teach as you go. Systems are getting in the way of customer service know that the merger with Sysco is going on. Company was on upward track until it sold its soul to Sysco for billions. All the hard work to change and be a better company is in the tank. Layoffs are looming.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are not the "easiest company to do business with". Systems were not fully fixed, and many got in the way of the customer being served properly.

    Pros

The salary at US Foods is ok. New technologies were used, so you can learn them and put them on your resume'.

    Cons

Benefits package is below average. Team structure is disorganized. Teams are composed of 80% consultants/contractors. Upper management is disorganized. They communicated to employees that they were preparing the company to go public, only to announce that the biggest competitor SYSCO would acquire US Foods.

    Pros

    Solid industry. Well known company.

    Cons

Culture is lacking. Attribute some of this to the pending merger. Old fashioned management style with a few exceptions at this location. No one likes change, when making suggestions to improve inefficiencies with business process, the "this is how we've always done it" line gets brought up. Frustrating to have no room for growth within your own position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Again, not all but some managers and supervisors just need to be more open to changing old process and procedure. Some of us have come from a place where this was implemented, and was a time/cost savings benefit to the bottom line. Upgrade our technology internally please!

    Pros

    Work/life balance flexibility
    Decent benefits & pay

    Cons

Merger with Sysco in less than a year
Lots of turnover in upper management
    Very low moral
    Unprofessional
    THIS division suffers immensely

A lot of us drivers are sick of the way our trucks are loaded always digging for cases that are ALWAYS on the bottom!

    Pros

4 day work week the pay is good... There are no other pros..!!

    Cons

Management will not take any advice form the drivers. You know the guys that actually do the job... Routing is horrible!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your heads out of your butt before you lose some more good drivers... Load the trucks as the drivers suggest.. When you have a truck that will hold 12 skids and you only put 8 or 9 because they want to put 60+ cube on a skid... THATS TO MANY!!!

I worked at US Foods full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The attendance policy is lenient for tardiness, This is especially good for those that live in snowy climates where the weather is unpredictable for commute times.

    Cons

Just like any other big company, great if going towards the top of the pyramid, if not, sucks to be you. They come out with their quarterly pep rallies to spur on the troops. But for most of the people who have been there long enough these are just one big waste of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of hiring some outside "Cubical Commandos" (Consultants), who have no knowledge of your business, to come up with you systems for doing business, why don't you confer with the people that do the actual job. Makes sense, right? That's why it doesn't happen.

I have been working at US Foods full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Attempt at creating positive culture. Company had been winning in marketplace. Many nice people.

    Cons

Acquired by Sysco but not closed yet. Acquisition creates a very uncertain pessimistic future. Leadership trying to convince folks to stay but not convincing. Only a handful will benefit from acquisition and it will clearly be bad for customers, competition and employees. FaceTime culture is not modern.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit trying to convince people there is opportunity when they know better.

    Pros

Health care. Weekly pay. Nothing else

    Cons

Salary is bad. Making 30000 grand a year while other employee's are making 50000 for doing less then I do. Not enough help for the higher ups. Buyers have know clue what they are doing. Sales reps need to push newer products so we can get rid of older product that we don't sell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raises. Pay your employees what the deserve.

    Pros

    Some good people and products.

    Cons

Promotions and hand outs are given to senior managements pals. You must be in the "IN" crowd to succeed here. They will set you up for failure or success. The current leadership is highly unethical. The pressures of the company initiatives are intense. No trust and the HR no retaliation policy is a joke. Deliveries need help.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less pressure on the people who generate your revenue would be a good start. Give sales the opportunity to grow their routes before pulling the plug. Do something about routing. Hold management accountable for they're inability to lead. Stop the favoritism its blatant? Reality will hurt when SYSCO takes over.
