ProsMarines are world class operators. They know how to shoot, move and communicate. Most of all, they are very discipline and always faithful (I.e, Semper Fidelis).

ConsSupporting operations under budget constraints. Promotion is very competitive. Changing middle manager mindsets to try new ideas.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the younger generation whom are more technological savvy.

Very satisfying. Diverse group of individuals that constantly adapt and improve to accomplish the mission and goals.

ProsThe potential to expand and progress in a leadership setting is there for those that want to take advantage of it.

ConsIs no longer a "can do" Marine Corps, the politics have entered every aspect of the structure. Every Marine must walk on eggshells to ensure that they don't offend any one or break any of the rules inadvertently.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet proven leaders take charge without being micro managed. You know the ones that need that "extra attention", don't apply that mind set to all Marines in your charge.

    Instructor (Current Employee)

ProsIf you aren't ready and able to devote yourself to leading some of the best young men and women the U.S. has to offer then this isn't the job for you. Being a Marine officer is not necessarily a career choice as much as it is a lifestyle decision.

ConsUnfortunately, you will not always be in the position to have a positive impact on the vast landscape that is the Marine Corps.

Quite an exciting career that seemingly ended too fast.

    Aviation Electronics Technician (Current Employee)
    Camp Pendleton, CA

ProsCamaraderie, friendships, travel, seeing the world, and being able to get anything accomplished regardless of the situation. Depending on your MOS (job), the work can be easy to extremely taxing. The promotion system works, but has flaws.

ConsThings have changed quite a bit over the last two decades. Handling things at the lowest level is getting a bit harder as time goes on. With the draw down, a lot of good Marines are not going to be able to continue their careers. With the politicians in D.C. making decisions from their cushy offices and behind closed doors, the political maneuverings of late have let a lot of military members doubting the 'guarantees' that were promised when they signed up.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep listening to your subordinates and force the politicians to keep their word!!
