    Pros

The training, benefits and experience you receive from serving in the US Navy as an Intelligence Specialist is invaluable. Excellent performance is directly reflected in promotions. The Navy culture breeds connections, contacts and relationships that will last a lifetime.

    Cons

Shipboard deployments can be trying on family relationships and can burn you out if you face them back to back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Prioritize the recognition of technical experts concentration on leadership activity and military achievements can stunt a technical exerts career and cause you to lose the leading experts in those positions.

I worked at US Navy full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Fastest career path to gain responsibility, see the world, meet the most people and learn new skills. An incredibly wide array of fields and positions to apply for.

    Cons

Manning: Some units are overmanned, but many are undermanned. Even on some shore duties, work/life balance can

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the relative strain and weight on each of your direct reports and their junior personnel. Balance within and outside the working environment is key to a healthy life.

I have been working at US Navy full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

As a young adult, I have learned how to be an effective team member and professional much quicker than my peers. I also gained experience in a growing, lucritave field that I can and plan to take further on the civilian side. The GI Bill is fantasic in addition to the littany of other benefits that are afforded to you both during and after your service.

    Cons

Leadership is often overwhelmed due to poor manning structure. Overall attitude about the job seems to be negative due to long, shifting schedules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please fix the manning structure within NIOC Hawaii. There are too few senior leaders (Especially E6's, you couldn't pay me enough to be an E6 at this command) for our 1,700 Sailors.

I have been working at US Navy full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The Navy was an amazing opportunity for me to grow and figure out the person I am and above all else I was able to do things that no other person my age could have done. The Base Pay is mediocre at best; however, the bonuses and extra allowances more than make up for it. The benefits were the icing on the cake because I spent my whole life wearing glasses and I received Lasik eye surgery without paying a dime because it was covered under my healthcare insurance.

    Cons

The opportunities for advancement in the enlisted side are not very good depending on the chosen Military Occupation. The time away from home is not ideal, but the shore duty makes up for it. Unless the Navy is a career choice you will have a hard time finding employment making a comparable salary once you finish your contract.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Fix the advancement process

I worked at US Navy as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

I was shore stationed in Hawaii, housing allowance once certain rank, worked in air conditioned office environment, and honestly the cons heavily outweighed the pros in my department..

    Cons

Some serious problems with micromanagement within my department, shift rotation constantly varied, medical sucks, morale was way low, only personnel in my department ever recognized were those playing assistant to the E6 n above (favoritism all the way)
