I worked at US Navy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Really good training and of course benefits. The pay was more than fair for the experience needed to do the work.

    Cons

Sometimes the hours could get a little out of hand with work being completed but supervisors insisting that more needed to be done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have set goals as to what needs to be accomplished and once you achieve them review and change if needed, but if results are satisfactory, don't keep working on that project.

    Pros

This helped me be a better person, through learning and experiences. The Navy really teaches you to deal with stuff that might not be "every day"...

    Cons

It needs some stress management at the begining.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep it up.

I have been working at US Navy full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The opportunities are endless, your coworkers become family @ smaller commands, the pride you feel for serving your Country is priceless, the skills you develop through schools and on the job training will last you a lifetime and would break the bank if you paid out of pocket.

    Cons

Difficult on family life in some ways.

I worked at US Navy full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I learned many things while in the Navy. I loved doing my job (CTM) but I did not like the military aspects. But In the end I am really glad I joined. I am much more disciplined, hard working, and punctual. Now I am using the Post 9/11 GI Bill and I couldn't be happier. Thanks Navy.

    Cons

Everyone gets punished if someone messes up. Do not get a DUI, your life will be ruined. Standing watch sucks, duty section sucks, a lot of the people suck. A lot of stupid people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to be receptive to your peers and don't screw anyone over for a promotion.

I worked at US Navy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

benefits are the pro, healthcare, housing, resources beyond anything in the civilian side for anything you would need at the Fleet and family service center. It is a big family, everyone looks out for you. opportunity is high.

    Cons

deployments, time away from family, the way the commands own you, being called in on off days is a regular occurrence.

I have been working at US Navy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Rewarding and fulfilling. Great people to work with. I think most people know what they're getting into, so it shouldn't come as a surprise. That said, it can be incredibly rewarding.

    Cons

Tough environment, time away from home. There are many times when the work is tedious and mundane, but that's to be expected. Promotion/advancement is highly scripted and based on time in, not performance (you aren't going to jump ahead if you are the top performer, just stand a better chance of promotion to the next rank).

I have been working at US Navy full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people you meet are outstanding and the experience you get from both work and travel cannot be gained from any other job in the world.

    Cons

Being away from family was the hardest part of the job. But this is part of the self sacrifice that is common for those in an all volunteer force.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Always balance life and work.
