I have been working at US Navy full-time

    Pros

Independent, fast paced environment that allows growth and provides great benefits in and after retirement. World wide job opportunities with bonuses and extra pay. 401k like program and unlimited promotion opportunities.

    Cons

Time away from family and long deployment hours can strain families and occasionally may lead to potential divorce. Promotions are knowledge and performance based and could range from 5-18 years to CPO.

    Advice to Management

You will never go wrong with serving your country and getting paid for it. The amount of experience coupled with degree opportunities makes the armed services the best US employer.

I worked at US Navy as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Food, housing, medical and dental are all paid for. Pay is great as well, all things considered. Camaraderie becomes second nature.

    Cons

There is a ton of bureaucracy involved in the chain of commands Navy wide. As long as you know how to "play the game", you'll be fine.

    Advice to Management

    Look out for your people!

I have been working at US Navy (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Navy Divers have the best quality of life in the Navy.

    Cons

The Navy Diver community is diminishing and becoming more and more like the "Fleet Navy"

    Advice to Management

Remember where you came from, unless you came from another rate, then adapt to the DeepSea life

    Pros

Education, training, free college, post 911 Gi Bill, travel, camaraderie, good pay, countless services and unlimited potential to grow both personally and professionally! I would not change my over 20 years of experience for anything!

    Cons

Time away from Family was a challenge but we made it work! I have no other cons to report and I believe military service should be experienced by all young Americans! Learn a trade, get a college degree, see the world and grow up and be ready to join the job market after you have served your country!!

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work U.S. Navy!

I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fantastic Pay Structure and benefits package. Many opportunities for growth, upward mobility, and additional training. Unequaled retirement plan.

    Cons

Regular transfers (every 2-4 years). 20 year minimum retirement. Undermanned for true effectiveness.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on repairing the Government Employee System as opposed of eroding military pay, benefits, and end strength. Continue to offer educational opportunities to highest performing personnel.
