Current Employee – been working at US Postal Service
Pros – Treat employees with respect, diverse workforce, good pay and great benefits, defined retirement plan, opportunities for advancement, listen to suggestions
Cons – Bad financial position at the current time. Post offices are closing, salaries are being frozen, some jobs are being eliminated
Advice to Senior Management – Managers are doing a great job keeping the workforce informed about the current situation and what is being done to help move the USPS forward.

Current Employee – been working at US Postal Service
Pros – Working for the Postal Service is definately one of the best jobs for experiance, access to work, work/life balance and everything else. Everyone at USPS is nice and willing to help each other out. There are lots of layers of approvals and management to get things done; But, not anything out of the ordinary for any other gov agency.
Cons – Financial status of the postal service is tough on all employees. This is typical at any company this day and age. Employees are still treated well. However, raises this year are probably off the table. On top of that salary rates are behind the rest of the federal government. This is offset by better benefits overall which does cost $$. Yet many do not necessarily need all of those benefits, while others definiately do.
Advice to Senior Management – When/if the economy turns I hope that you compensate the employees that stayed at HQ. I believe labor rates and compensation is below the rest of the federal government.

Former Employee – worked at US Postal Service
Pros – I enjoyed the independent nature of the rural carrier job. Also liked that I was responsible for a definitive amount of work (didn't have to take up the slack for people not doing their job as I had in past jobs). Liked the mixture of physical, mental, and organizational skills needed for the job.
Cons – There will always be a few incompetent people in the wrong positions. This is true of every company and every workplace. The Post Office is particularly bad at weeding the deadbeats out.
Advice to Senior Management – Cut out some of the desk jobs that don't really do much work. That is your better cost cutting measure.

Current Employee – been working at US Postal Service
Pros – Stability-As every town or city has a post office and everyone has to mail something therefore as long as people keep licking the back of stamps their doors will always be open. , Salary-when a person is paid well they do not mind working hard and when the salary is great they come to work. Recognition & Respect-when you are in your postal uniform you are someone people look forward to seeing. Community involvment-No matter how cold, harsh rain or snow someone will always be waiting on their mailman. Co-Workers-through their hard work and dedication the average postal employee has atleast 15-25 years of service and that speaks well for the postal organization as a whole.
Cons – The Wait...the process of getting in is (don't call us we'll call you)
Advice to Senior Management – I love the way management handles their positions. They are very detailed oriented and give more advice that actual needed.

Current Employee – been working at US Postal Service
Pros – The United States Postal Service is one of the most secure jobs to have. There are no layoffs and the pay and benefits are excellent. Opportunity for advancement is available to all that wish to apply themselves and be able to put in some hard work. Where I work there is open communication from Senior management through the direct reports. Teamwork is tantamount in my district and is fostered.
Cons – Lower pay scale than private industry, Unions and managements confrontational behavior is counter productive. Currently the lack of experience on the front lines (delivery units) is a concern. In certain Areas there is the appearance of cronyism.
Advice to Senior Management – For EAS employees in NPA we are held accountable for costs that we have no autonomy or direct control over.

Former Employee – worked at US Postal Service part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great co-workers, good beneftis, opportunities to do temporary full time gigs if you are part time. Management where I was was very easy to communicate with....very forthcoming with praise where due.
Cons – USPS is in financial turmoil right now....did not feel good about my job security as a part-time employee with post office hours being cut in smaller areas where I worked.

Former Employee – worked at US Postal Service full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Made enough money to pay bills, do most of what we wanted, take vacations, and afford the extracurricular activities the kids participated in. The work contract in that duties are defined.
Cons – The work contract in that it does not give allowance for compromise between labor and management. The level of dishonesty in higher level management and their total disregard and respect for employees (the upper managers talk about employees as if they are all thieves, liars, and lower than dirt). Being forced to work overtime when not on the list and then being denied overtime when you are on the list. It is a grievance, but you have to go through that process.
Advice to Senior Management – Treat employees as if they are the reason mail gets delivered and not as if you are the saviors of the company. Mail would get sorted, cased, and delivered every single day - without your lackluster and invalid input. You are all horrible leaders and bad examples of what makes a good worker anyway, as I have sat in on your conference calls and the daily check ins. SLACKERS = Houston management from Postmaster up.

Current Employee – been working at US Postal Service full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – - Good salary and benefits
- Good opportunities to and demonstrate management and leadership skills.
- Good opportunities to affect change.
Cons – - Currently being subsidized by the Federal Government to maintain viability...revenues do not cover both operations and s&b due to electronic divergence, esp. with 1st class mail.
