    Pros

Work-Life balance at USG is not something to which lip service is paid, but is real. This is rare. Also, USG's employees are generally more agreeable and easier to work with than anywhere else that I have worked. The atmosphere is collaberative and cooperative. This is a very solid company that has been around for over 100 years, and is positioned to do very well once construction's rebound gets some legs

    Cons

Compensation is average. As is common in Industry, employees' workloads are pretty high. Given how process-oriented IT has become, this can be a source of frustration.

    Advice to Management

I have a lot of confidence in upper management. Keep it up.

    Pros

There are more communications than ever before from the executive committee which definitely helps motivate employees. Lately our teams plan to win has created our own company recession recovery which has motivated all employees from senior executives to the operator level. We have seen our first pay raise in some time as promised and looking forward to the future with great faith in our executive leaders.

    Cons

Some USG location seem slow to adapt to new technology but getting better.
Still have unrealistic deadlines to meet which stunt project growth due to manpower shortages.

    Advice to Management

Continue the communications and try to speed up the adaptation of new technologies at all plants.

    Pros

USG, for engineers in particular, provides a rewarding and challenging work environment. Strong focus on safety and employee well-being, and freedom to be creative make it very enjoyable.

    Cons

Slow to move on the newest technologies. Reluctant to explore different, cutting edge processes for making products.

    Advice to Management

Excellent move by breaking up the business units.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

    Excellent company history
    A lot of job autonomy
    Opportunities for learning and growth
    Company invests in it's employees

    Cons

    Management can be very political
A good ol boy network prevents innovation
Not many employees in the 20 and 30 age group - it can be lonely
Not many choices as far as location
    Pay is below industry standard

    Advice to Management

Be honest about the company's flaws, correct them, and USG is small enough and has low enough inertia to change. It can be a very enjoyable place to work, which will attract the best and brightest talent... as well as retain and energize those individuals. The pay is not quite as high as other companies, but with sufficient travel, and flexible schedules, USG could become one of the better companies for working professionals.
