Former Employee – worked at UT Southwestern Medical Center full-time
Pros – UT Southwestern is a good research institute and has a lot of very well known scientists. The medical school is also highly ranked.
Cons – UT Southwestern Medical center trains a lot of post doctoral fellows in biological sciences. Most faculty members want you to stay in academia and are not very useful when it comes to jobs in industry. However, once the training is over, there are very few academic jobs to apply for.
Researchers are expected to work very hard (most do, at the expense of their family life) for very little pay. Most scientists have 20+ years of education, but many are paid in $30 K (or less) range.
Academic research in biological sciences is especially hard on female researchers, who may be ambitious about a carrier in science, want to have kids and a balanced life.
Specialized prolonged training in biological sciences is often not an asset in the job market.

Current Employee – been working at UT Southwestern Medical Center
Pros – work-life balance. OK benefits with pensions.
provide flexible working schedule to take care family
Close to hospital and clinics.
Good campus.
Cons – Poor management, poor HR. Lots of politics and power struggle.
People who do the talk and have "good" relationship with management got the promotion, not based on your real contribution. Very inefficient structure. Need to trim the "fat" from management level.
Advice to Senior Management – Reward your employees based on performance not on something else.
Promote good ethical values in work place. Know the stuff you are talking.
