    Pros

World-class hospital, well-known for their advances in medicine. They don't like giving out overtime, so it makes for good work-life balance--making sure you get off at your scheduled time.

    Cons

Their pay scales are below average, and there isn't much room for advancement. Also, many job classes are unionized--which can be good for some people, but I personally don't care much for unions.

    Pros

Generous vacation time, off on all major and minor holidays, paid sick time, most tools provided to get the job done.

    Cons

New management does not take the advice of the employees who have experience and have been there longer, little chance of advancing from within, management tends to hire friends and/or people who look good on paper but are clueless to what is going on

    Advice to Management

Listen to your Employees and hire people who are already in tune to what is going on

    Pros

Some of the best and some of the worst! Like the Verdi opera Simone Bocanegra, many people have robes with HUGE axes up their sleeves, many silently polite. But there's a theme of irresponsibility among managers: those who stay long enough to "get along well with others" while ignoring the technical aspects of their job--or those who lack technical skills AND management skills altogether who cut technically adept employees off at the knees.

    Cons

It is a large government animal where too many defer to the rules for counting the beans (or collecting laurels) within a department or from one's manager, which has NOTHING to do with integrating well with other departments--and that is the biggest problem of all! The few dedicated employees kill themselves, while most folks just skate through the motions. Frankly, I'm horrified we are paying taxes for this government entity. Those who keep a smiling face may be frustrated at not being able to apply their technical skills because it is managed by a different group (who never understands the problem).

    Advice to Management

Where's the accountability up high? Far too many managers dont care if stuff is done right, just fake it'! And then leave!

    Pros

Interesting interactions, fulfilling work. You get a free drink every day that you volunteer. The espresso bar always smells delicious

    Cons

Having the search the hospital for wheelchairs especially sucks, they are never kept in the same place. The calls for a wheelchair volunteer come in far too infrequently.

    Advice to Management

Invest in more wheelchaiars. Treat the volunteers better, they are giving their valuable time away.

    Pros

Review for UW Medicine IT: Good benefits and work-life balance. Very low turnover (<8%) in IT so less time on building new relationship (could be a con here as well).

    Cons

Review for UW Medicine IT: No vision from the top to incorporate new or innovative technologies. No career path within departments. No motivations the top on bring teams together or encourage proactive dynamics between teams. Upper management seems very disconnected or not interested in using technologies to increase efficiency or performance. Provides little to non-existent training.

    Advice to Management

    Almost everything in cons.

I have been working at UW Medicine full-time

    Pros

    Stability, job security, work/life balance

    Cons

Very difficult to get pay increases, bad management and leadership

    Advice to Management

To attract and keep talented people you need a better way of advertising positions and more importantly somehow incentive or show some appreciation to the "high" performance workers. Otherwise, there is no "real" reason to stay here or work harder.
