I worked at UW Medicine full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Review for UW Medicine IT: Good benefits and work-life balance. Very low turnover (<8%) in IT so less time on building new relationship (could be a con here as well).

    Cons

Review for UW Medicine IT: No vision from the top to incorporate new or innovative technologies. No career path within departments. No motivations the top on bring teams together or encourage proactive dynamics between teams. Upper management seems very disconnected or not interested in using technologies to increase efficiency or performance. Provides little to non-existent training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at UW Medicine full-time

    Pros

    Stability, job security, work/life balance

    Cons

Very difficult to get pay increases, bad management and leadership

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To attract and keep talented people you need a better way of advertising positions and more importantly somehow incentive or show some appreciation to the "high" performance workers. Otherwise, there is no "real" reason to stay here or work harder.

I have been working at UW Medicine full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you like job security and great benefits, you'll love working here. Also, for the most part people are professional and friendly.

    Cons

No accountability with my Manager and promotions are rare and when mine happened, the job wasn't what they sold it as in the interview. I finally got promoted but they did a bate and switch. It was my understanding of a leadership position but my job ended up being more adminstrative support. Have not been happy about that at all. This has also happened to a friend of mine. Wouldn't really recommend this hospital for advancement and growth unless you are a nurse or physician.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See above cons about the bate and switch. People interview for a specific job for a reason.

Also, listen to your employees and make them feel valued. I am an expert in my field but my boss never comes to me or listens to anything I say so I do not feel valued at all.

    Pros

Our union is a fairly strong union, and we have great benefits and good discounts on insurance.

    Cons

Extremely poor management. Very disorganized, bad communication and scheduling. No flexibility for working parents because its a union and schedules are locked in and based on seniority.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some scheduling course on effective shift coverage during holidays.
