    Pros

Working and gaining knowlesge in latest beauty trends. Discount is fair.

    Cons

Cut cut cut! Companies motto is to cut hours! However they still want you to maintain a prestige person a cashier and a GEM on the floor at all times. They also expect you to balance the wee little amount of hours they give with shipment and ad set and plano changes and replenishment and cleaning and on and on. The company sets you up to fail. They plan you too high on sales and when that doesn't happen....guess what...more cuts! Managers are glorified cashiers and can't complete their jobs. Then the DM want explinations daily as to why we get negative scoring online...possibly because we don't have any hours available to actually help these people, and a lot if times stuck on register alone with a line of 10 people staring at you.

    Pros

The pay. I asked for a ridiculous amount because I wasn't sure if I really wanted the job and they agreed.

    Cons

Working with young girls with no management experience. I was discriminated on based on my age. I would have to run the entire store by myself. There was no team work involved. The company had a bully mentality. Working an open to close shift and then coming in the next day at 7 am to do shipment. There was no work life balance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire management with management experience. Be professional. Don't curse at associates in front of customers...or ever.

    Pros

Great products, outside vendor support, employee discounts, free products.

    Cons

Unsupportive and unprofessional senior management (DM level and above), hostile work environment, does not care about balance of work/home life, inconsistent application and enforcement of company policies, HR not interested in protecting the rights of their employees. Negative culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop opening new stores and FIX your current field infrastructure. What corporate level management THINKS is going on in stores is not at all what is really happening in stores. You are a company that sells products primarily for women with a workforce that is primarily staffed by women yet you have no interest in supporting women.

    Pros

Good discount, most coworkers are really awesome

    Cons

management is sneaky and secretive about promoting favored enployees. If you're not a favorite, expect an attitude and no promotion. No promotion within, management just hires new people for the position you've been dying to have and then avoid you so they don't have to deal with you being upset over it. The customers are disgustingly rude if you work on register. You get paid barely anything. Nobody can live off $8.50 an hour. They expect you to bend over backwards and work like a dog for no compensation. Don't work here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Promote within
    Stop favoring certain associates

    Pros

25% Employee Discount (35% during employee appreciation)

    Cons

    Cutting shifts
    Under qualified Management
    Inconsistent Hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better training for managers! My store seems to not be the only one run by incompetent mangers. Most weeks I could have the weekly schedule until Sunday moring... a few hours before a possible shift would begin and would be notified a shift was cut only to be called and asked why I did not show up for the cut shift.

After a little over a month, I am fed up with this company. The only real benefit was the 25% discount,

    Pros

I meet new and interesting people everywhere I go and this is no different. I enjoy working with women as coworkers and customers.

    Cons

    -No training.
-GM throws her team under the bus to save herself.
-knowledge for growth is not shared
-favoritism, must belong to the club to keep job.
-no sense of belonging or value

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When the employee hotline is called several times the staff is screaming for help. Time for DM to interview staff to find out what is broken.

    I worked at Ulta Beauty

    Pros

Gratitude/ free makeup was very nice. But managers toke the best picks first.

    Cons

    Lake of communication between managers.
    EXTREMLY high turn over rate.
No matter how hard working, or passionate you are for the company, they will not promote you.
Do not work well with other schedules.
had to work nights for a whole week, which really messes up sleep schedule.
Doing truck at 5 am. And by the end of your shift you will be DEAD.
scheduled till 10 pm, but won't get out until 1 in the morning!
if you work for ulta, you can NOT have a family, or a life outside of work!
Getting free makeup is great, don't get me wrong. But it will not pay your bills.
managers are over worked, and too much is expected out of them. Because of managers being under valued and taken for granite, they will not be very pleased to work with.
I strongly believe anyone with an amazing work ethic will be worked to the bone and taken and advantage of, until they snap.
being a manager for ulta beauty will effect your soul. and your home life.
They expect each guest gets "customer service", but in reality they have no clue what that means. I'm a strong believer in customer service and we are trained to do everything but that.
Corporate will judge you on your apperance. Fact.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to management basics. Managers are over worked, so they feel it's faster if they do everything instead of training staff. So management really needs to learn that the reason they have such a high turn over rate for emplyees is because they are micro managing workers and that's why people always quit. Give them some responsibility. Advice for corperate, stopping setting such high expectations for your stores. Every ulta I have heard of has a bad reputation. (In different states). And you really need to learn to hire within your company. YOU NEED TO LEARN TO TAKE CHANCES ON PEOPLE AND STAND BEHIND YOUR WORKERS.

I have been working at Ulta Beauty part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The salon discount is great if you can afford it with a second job.

    Cons

Hours get cut like crazy even though store is on or above budget. Expected to give wow experience but hard when there are a total of 3 people working. I've been in on my off days & no regular employees working all were management. Training is a joke. Prestige is expected to train the rest of the employees & get scolded when you haven't been able to do it. Well working 4 hour shifts a week, with being the only person on floor, & getting hours cut left & right make it very hard to achieve. Lack of communication from upper management even direct area managers. Pay is on the low side when you come in with extensive experience, you still get paid what Joe Schmo with no experience gets paid. I used to love shopping here prior to working there now I hate going there & will most likely shop elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your act together. Give employees more hours or not have so many people on payroll if you know you can't give every employee a decent amount of hours. Especially when promised X amount of hours at job interview. Fix the training, it really is a joke. Reading verbatim from a binder is no way to train. Make it fun & interactive so what is needed to be known, sticks.
