    Pros

If candidates have the right members of management of their side, their employment will be safe regardless of perfomance. If a candidate is willing to work in this type of environment, this is the perfect place for them.

    Cons

This company boasts of being a top employer by inflating their turnover numbers. The organization hires a large number of temporary employees which are let go or resign in masses. These numbers are not counted in their attrition as they aren't considered employees.

Performance is not the main factor of good standings but the ability to friend the right members of the senior management team. Nepotism is their model of operation; the top officials are either related or close family friends. This model doesn't allow qualified candidates the opportunity to prove themselves through their job performance.

Forbes gets it wrong every year with rating this company as a top employer because the management team only allow certain individuals to participate in their survey. Due to the free benefits there are employees who dislike the organization but chose to provide good feedback because of their personal reasons and Ultimate Software takes advantage of this situation.

The top employer status is used as a sales tool to attract clients, however they nickel and dime every customer. For being a HR company, employees are treated unfairly with poor performance documentation for obvious reasons.

Forbes, stop using a generic survey, get the real facts...

    Advice to Management

No advise. So far this model has made many members of the senior management team very wealthy.

    Pros

    Free benefits, nice Atlanta location

    Cons

I have been in IT since the 80's and have never run across a company with this type of work ethic in my life. No work-life balance. They expect you to stay on a customer call until it is done, if that is 10:00 pm, they don't care. Also they give you vacation time off but frown upon you using it. They want you to not attend your children's graduations, schedule all family appointments on the same day, work on your vacation if you even take it because again it is totally frowned upon. You get fooled in the orientation, they are not family friendly at all. I actually did not participate in most of the orientation because...I had to work. If you have a life outside of your work, don't join this organization, you will be disappointed. Also there is no real HR, if you have a complaint about your immediate management, there is no one to talk to, no recourse. Imagine that, an HRMS firm with no defined HR.

    Advice to Management

Save some money by not sending everyone to Florida for orientation, use that money to create more work/life balance for your employees and some basic management training skills for your managers, especially sensitivity training. Also use chatter for something meaningful other than mindless, fake, and insincere jabber.

    Pros

Peers are very nice and easy to get along with and the benefits are excellent; i.e. no cost to employees.

    Cons

Workplace is an absolutely horrible place to work and the management there do not know what they are doing. Client assignments are made to consultants with no regard of current workload and complexity, training slots are limited and there are not enough slots available for the clients who need the training; if a client makes a change to their schedule, it could be months before another training slot becomes available to them. Engagement "managers" who oversee the projects have no experience and are unwilling to step in and set the right expectations for a client who is out of line. Because of this, the good clients are often overlooked and more attention is paid to belligerent ones. Both employees and customers are unhappy with the level of service being provided to customers; nearly every consultant feels they are failing due to the unreasonable demands put upon them. Several employees have had medical issues (including myself) due to the unreasonable demands put onto them. In sum, this place is the most poorly run, disorganized mess I have ever come across in my career. I wish I had something more positive to say about this organization but I truly do not.

    Advice to Management

Look at the mess in Workplace and fire your senior management there. Bring in some talent who has dealt with a startup and can turn Workplace around. Focus on rock solid sales and implementations and set the right expectations from the beginning. Execute some actual planning and have enough resources to get implementations done on time and without errors. Finally, get some experienced engagement managers who have some experience in scope control and managing client relationships without coddling to them.
