Upper management is out of touch. Has cut back on employees and left the work up to the customers.

    Pros

Can't think of any pros unless you're a stockholder. Uni Select shows no appreciation to their customers or employees.

    Cons

Customers dissatisfied with Uni Select and the employees on the front line hear it daily. No leadership and yearly raises are laughable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Someone from upper management should make it their business to speak with their customers and their employees to get some advice as to how to run a company.

    EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

IT'S A PAYCHECK AND CLOSED WHEN THERE IS A MAJOR SNOWSTORM

    Cons

Completely ignorant employees; unprofessional and clueless management; can barely make a living with the small pay; too much responsibility for the amount of money I make; dread going to this job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know your job and be professionals. Pay your employees more money.

Former Employee - Operations Manager in Chicago, IL

    Pros

Did have many good people working there, a small core that tried to make a difference. Good to work with.

    Cons

No Leadership - changed org chart at least twice a year over 10 year time span. They moved the same people around the chart and continued to get the same results.

American management always worked against their Canadian owners - as a result one of the worse cultures in the Automotive Aftermarket in the US

Most of the talented people were either let go or left on their own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Buy back the stock of your largest stock holder and clean out the family management in your us wholesale division. Replace with with real leaders like those brought in at Advance Auto

Current Employee - Senior Counter Sales in Binghamton, NY

    Pros

I like some of the people I work with. The occasional spiff from vendors to promote there products.

    Cons

The hacking of hours in the stores. They wonder why sales slump when there is no staff left to handle volume of customers. I can only hope some company buys them out before they run us into the ground. Uniselect is so cheap to pay for employees with experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start looking at the morale in the company and see how bad it is. Staff the stores that have the sales so they can continue to profit. We as employee don't feel like we have a future here. You have lost a lot of good quality people! You will loose more if you don't fix this.

    Pros

They promise the world and deliver very little.

    Cons

This warehouse is the worst supplyer in the industry. Their fill rate is horrible, their prices are not competitive. They talk independant part stores into setting thier computor to order online, then they charge a handling fees. The don't care about their customer, only gross profit for them. They also sell to your customers threw their online web site ROCK AUTO. They are a direct compititor to independant part stores. Watch these guys business ethIc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't work for these guys

    Pros

They offer benefits and a 401K match to a certain percentage.

    Cons

They health insurance kept changing with the costs to employees increasing each time. There is no such thing as training. Little chance for advancement with even less to females. Salaries well below industry average.

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

    Its a job, thats it.

    Cons

There is very little positive reinforcement ever. Upper management is clueless. Always expect stores to do more with less; people, inventory, ect. They never hear the street speaking to them.
Dictatorial and degrading place to work. I have never worked anywhere where overall morale is lower. Very depressing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the people at the top or risk not being here is five years. Encourage employees to offer suggestions and react to them. This is a store driven company that is being run as though it was a warehouse driven company.

    Pros

Plenty of work and chalenges for accountants. Presently implementing a new ERP system will make the future very interesting for growth opportunities.

    Cons

Extremly demanding work loads for everyone. Old school management, family owners and Canadian head office create a confused environment for decisssion making. Not very proacctive and a bumpy road ahead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your act toogeter and be more transparent. You cannot manage one business as if you had two. Is this a canadian owned busniess or a US driven one?
