"Titanic" sinking faster then they think

Counter Person (Current Employee) Buffalo, NY

ProsNot much good to say only that its a pay check. the spiff's that vendor's offer to the counter person is very nice at least they appreciate what you do for them.

ConsCustomer service doesn't seem like it exists anymore all corporate management cares about is gross profit and to do more with less. part time help no more than 25 hours a week. Full time only 40 hours and if you work past it they alter your time so it is only 40 hours. God forbid your helping a customer and work 15 minutes overtime and make a nice sale they would rather you not take care of the customer.

Advice to Senior Managementget out from behind the desk and work out in the field and see what it is really like. Not everything that you see on paper works in the real world. Take care of your employee's better show them you care not treat them like they are all replaceable.

This company can only hope they get bought out!

Counter (Former Employee) New York, NY

    ProsPay was ok. Co-workers

ConsCutting all part time workers to 25 hours a week. Which cut staff. Not replacing staff in stores that truly needed bodies. No overtime. But still questioned by management why customers aren't happy with service! The good old work harder with less.!

Advice to Senior ManagementThis company will be swallowed up by the competition. Your cutting of staff has hurt morale and your service. Nobody feels safe working there. You will continue to bleed quality help unless you change the way you do business. I've been in this business 20 years. I left after 10 years. I have never seen mismanagement this bad. I don't see the light at the end of tunnel for uniselect. It's a shame you have ruined this place with your practices.

Traveling through a Rough Spot but use to be Great!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Kennesaw, GA

ProsFive years ago things were very different with this company. Uni-Select used to be employee and customer oriented and it was a pleasure to work for them. The Best thing to come from this company in the last five years is the recent appointment of the current President of the US Group

ConsSAP computer conversionhad to be done due to all the different computer systems in the field but it has been a challenge to say the least... Reduced Inventory due to binge purchasing by SAP; Poor Service to Customers; Higher Cost of Goods- This could be done if you were giving customers a great level of service with awesome representation but we are no where close to that...
From the Sales Side of the company- Compensation packages have taken a huge hit. With all the focus on internal issues and making the shareholders more money, Uni-Select has lost sight of taking care of the customers. Customers who are now inundated with semi poor service and higher cost of goods. So when sales go down the best way to counteract this is to cut the number of salesmen and then when that doesn't work cut the remaining salesmen's compensation packages. Also the sales group car allowances have been drastically cut in the last couple of months. All this could mean a focus on the good folks looking elsewhere for employment but...
The one good thing is that the Uni-Select Sales Force is much older in age. Most of them could not go find another job due this fact. So they will stay put and this could be great news for Uni-Select. Maybe a second act encore???

Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to the way of business that got you here in the first place... ie-Take care of the Customers and Employees like family

    current NY warehouse employee

Warehouse Worker (Current Employee) Buffalo, NY

Prosits a job, free coffee, good hours, able to come & go as you like, don't have to be very intelligent,

Consvery weak management team, health insurance cost extremely high, parts lines disorganized & hard to fine, new employees have no work ethic, employee requests disregarded. company future is bleak

Advice to Senior Managementkeep your resumes updated

Some of the most unorganized and unhappy people I have ever encountered

A/R Collector (Former Employee) Roanoke, VA

Prosdecent pay, discounts on auto parts, banker's hours, free parking,

Consseriously outdated accounting tracking systems, non ADA compliant building, miserable people - all they seem to care about are their smoke breaks and where they are going to eat lunch.
If you meet your goal for the month, there's no incentive. You don't get extra pay, a day off, a paid lunch, a pat on the back - nothing. So what's the point in having goals w/o rewards?

Advice to Senior Managementget your stores and your corporate headquarters on the same accounting tracking software!!!
