    Pros

The office culture is great. People are easy to get along with.

    Cons

Leadership is seriously lacking. Training is a joke. Scandals are the life blood of this company.

    Advice to Management

Do the right thing the first time and you won't have to worry about putting out so many fires later.

    Pros

just trying to make things better...........

    Cons

This company should have one undercover boss in its facilities in nh vs its newer shops in the south. Shops are ran like sweatshops supervisors are required to work 30 plus hrs of overtime for free so this makes this company great to work for as a salary employee. Company claims to be about family but the GM doesn't care one bit about anyone but his self. To be a company in the north the low pay for supervisors and employees is dismal walmart pays better. Management looks at employees as if they get a winter out of the dock crew that works three times more hours as anyone else in the company then they can replace them if they quit GM treats his staff with such disrespect that if he worked for any other company he would be asked to resign but yet home office looks at him like a great boss. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

    Advice to Management

Treat supervisors with the same respect you want for yourself as well as the employees that do your work. Staff and pay like you want to keep employees do not treat them as temp staff if thats what you want then hire temp staff so as to not waste time training them. If unifirst is a family business and cares about employees family then they need to see their families ive never worked for a company that caters to their driver like newborn babies that do nothing more that get into their truck and drive come back leave their truck in a mess and go home with no respect for the guys who make sure they have what they need for their job.

    Cons

    Pros

pay check... weekends off.. sort of.. always paperwork to do... insane amounts of paperwork..

    Cons

impossible to succeed in this company in the sales dept. Service is a joke it is never their fault no matter what happens it is the salespersons fault. Services loses many of the customers sales works so hard to get and then sales commission is taken back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They hold their customers feet to the fire. They lie to their customers willingly and often and still hold their feet to the fire. They care about one thing and it is not the happiness of their employees or the satisfaction of their customers... it is the bottom line and only the bottom line. I was in the sales dept and in the time I was there(a little over a year they turned over everybody in the sales dept except 2 salesman and the gm. Even the managers quit because they hated it too!!!! also in that time frame even our most experienced and best rep was not at quota... and what is up with being able to bonus before you hit quota. Quota should be a obtainable number and bonus should be a little beyond that. the the whole idea is to make sales managers and sales people work very, very, very hard and only the higher ups enjoy the spoils... awful experience. They would say you are on behind on quota and then not offer anything but corporate fodder as to how to get back on track... and anytime they actually had a good manager they were gone in under a year.... a good manager would never stay with this company because it is impossible for them to succeed. They know they have to turn over their whole sales staff every two years and that sales people will not succedd but they still get mad pain when this happens. and they are put thru a heinous amount of incredibly stupid training... I am only thankful we were not close to corp office in Mass I can only imagine how much fun that would be!!!!!!! absolutely set up to fail!!!! they also have to rescue their paperwork process from the 1960's.. what a cluster the paperwork process is.. you have to write the customers name and address on like 20 different forms!!!! ridiculous and yet another reason a sales person just can not succeed!!!!!! no way!!!

    Advice to Management

help your sales force succeed. or at very least if you are going to take the stance that they are very expendable do make them bend over backwards to get the job and then put them thru that stupid so called training program!!!! Revisit the whole bonus/quota system it is the dumbest thing I have ever scene. Once you get done training and get in the field for a few months you realize you will never, ever hit the quota...

Good pay, bad management will leave you in a bind I have nothing good to say about this company. I really do not appreciate this company's screwing me over.

    Cons

They hire 15 people and then fire at least 13 of them.. They don't reason with you, tell you what your doing wrong. They have employees talk to management behind your back. I strongly do not recommend working here. They fired me one afternoon on a weekend said that I wasn't learning quick enough and I was working to fast. The guy I was riding with called himself a christain but threatened to leave me in a city I 2 hrs away from Durham because I wasnt "working fast enough". They made me do a cash in and didn't help me, then got made because I didn't learn what I was doing the first time I done it. I do not like this place I will never ever work for them or do business with them in the future, they have left me in a bind. That's not caring about your employees that's being but holes. They try to pull you in with good pay but it's nit worth the hard ship you will get after they fire you.

    Advice to Management

Words can not describe how much hard ship I have been through sense this business has laid me off.

I worked at UniFirst full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The benefits weren't bad, the job really wasn't that bad.(if they would just let you do it ). The hours were good

    Cons

Management wouldn't listen, its the type of place that unless it was their idea then it wasn't a good one... There were multiple times when the right answer was turned down because "we don't want to hear that" ... The plant in Owensboro needs to be expanded no if and or buts about it, but the VP has been quoted as saying that will never happen while he is still working there... I say fire him and let the business grow ! Its this old school thinking that is the worst part of the company.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the 80s this is the age of collaboration not "one to rule them all" ... You are no better then the people you hire, start treating them like humans instead of numbers.

I have been working at UniFirst as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is not bad for the area. Small group of people sales and service work together.

    Cons

Hours (60) per week. RSR/DSS is blamed for everything wrong.Branch Manager plays dumb. Uses a language barrier as a fail safe.Garments are poorly shipped. Cross contamination is never ending. Location can not keep staff. They walk off without notice. Broken down trucks all the time. Pay is always wrong. No support from corporate due to management hiding issues. RSR running route without heating or a/c in trucks. Was -11 this week. On and on and on issues never end.

    Advice to Management

Customers should not be more focused on then your employees.
