    Cons

too many managers too much internal review endless restructuring never know who is your real boss

    Advice to Management

make single point accountability real, stop every decision needing to be made by a half dozen managers, kill the fear of risk culture

    Pros

great resume line; tons of outside opportunities

    Cons

too much bureaucracu; can't react to the market fast enough; not a sales driven organization; marketers need to spend much more time with customers

    Advice to Management

Don't be surprised about attrition considering your salary modeal

The best reason to work for Unilever is to get a solid multinational company on your resume. You will also have access to a CPG machine and can understand how the supply chain interacts with brand. If you are in a corporate function you will be working in very nice areas (Connecticut, Chicago, Northern Jersey). If you are in a manufacturing function you will have access to a job board that can take you all over the country, gaining experience in manufacturing foods and personal care products. You will have access to union environments as well as nonunion. It is also neat to be able to reveal some of what is behind the curtain on some of their favorite products.

    Cons

Work many hours. In some cases, advancement is given to people with seniority and not skill. There are a lot of people there that continue to be employed because there isn't enough time for managers to work up a dossier on how bad their people are.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to get to market first, instead of following P&G all day. But you know this. Maybe you can hire better people and pay them more to stay!

    Pros

Top CPG company; a lot of brands; great training; easy to go into other marketing afterward

    Cons

Big, get lost in the shuffle. Some roles much more work than others.

    Advice to Management

Promote and support the star talent more. Work out better balance of responsibilities. Value an MBA more. Promote where due in terms of work product not just friends with everyone.

    Pros

The work environment is very professional yet relaxed. Employees are intelligent and motivated to get work done well. The company has brands that span both Home Personal Care and Foods. Home Personal Care moved from Connecticut to New Jersey in 2008, so employees now have a better opportunity to move between the two areas to get a broader range of experience. It's a short commute from New York City or Eastern New Jersey suburbs, so it is very accessible for employees who desire to live in those areas.

    Cons

The marketing department is saturated, so there is little upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Add a few more layers in the marketing organization so people can move up and feel as though there career is going somewhere. Stop removing positions to consolidate work - people are overwhelmed and it provides less opportunities for people who are ready to move up.

    Pros

Money is good, benefits are good...but need to know how to treat their employees with respect.

    Cons

Upper managment lets positon of power get out of hand, they brag of their ethics policy, but truthfully speaking, this company managment in the United States has no ethics and they treat their employees very poorly, take away their dignity and spit you out.

    Advice to Management

Uk would be wise to pay more attention to UnileverOne in the United States, they give Unilever a bad reputation.

    Pros

great experience with top customers; lots of responsibility

    Cons

Unilever's biggest issue is that it is way too internally focused. Most senior management would rather meet with each other than a customer. Our competitors are much better resourced at the customer level.

    Advice to Management

Empower your sr. manager and director to actually make decisions.

    Pros

Value opinions of employees, great place to learn and contribute. Ample leadership opportunities. Care about personal worklife balance.

    Cons

Pay, cutting back. base salary freeze - shift to increasing bonus potential (which as with all bonuses are not guarnteed). Hard to reach director level, lots of competition.

    Advice to Management

reinstate base salary incresaes to at least keep pace with inflation.
