I worked at Unilever (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome working culture, lots of trainings, teaches multiple facets of the business. Targets are pretty challenging which encourages one to push beyond personal limits.

    Cons

Inefficient performance review systems, slow promotion are the major points of dissatisfaction. It's also a big company so there will be enough competition for promotions. Also frequent changes in company plans and visions cause confusion among employees

    Advice to Management

Improve the Human Resource Management system - in particular the grievance handling system.

I have been working at Unilever full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexibility to work from home usually on Fridays, depending on your group, and other days when have personal commitments. There is not much tracking of vacation days.

    Cons

A lot of bureaucracy. Slow to move due to layers of management. Career advancement takes longer than similar companies, but leadership seem to be working on this.

    Advice to Management

Provide organized and mandatory training people who manage others, from manager up to VP level. Promote more from within US vs. bringing talent in from other countries.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Experience at a general level in many areas due to the level of collaboration on projects. Great company for learning about the CPG business from the vendor standpoint at a general level. Great for understanig how multinatonal or global companies operate as well.

    Cons

Very challenging for upward promotions due to the weight put on public relations within the company vs concrete results. Fast movement between positions (1-2 years) on average in all departments management level and below limits the opportunity to deliver very beneficial bottom line results or develop impactful business processes.

    Advice to Management

Develp standard business cases to be presented allowing candidates to compete more fairlly basing results on business exceptional business solutions and not just on internal relations. Consider establishing a 3 year stadard period to remain in positions.
