Former Employee – worked at Union Bank N.A.
Pros – great team menbers and friendly work environment
Cons – no room for growth, no career development, no point to be ambitious, filled with senoir managers just looking to get by while doing minimal work and mazimizing corporate expense policies.
Advice to Senior Management – weed out the free-loaders and recognize who really drives business

Former Employee – worked at Union Bank N.A. full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – they have casual dress on fridays
Cons – No room for growth within the company
Advice to Senior Management – Managers should appreciate their employees better, and learn the business , so when we have questions you can help us instead of blowing us off.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Union Bank N.A. full-time for more than a year
Pros – Very good benefits with exception of their health insurance, which it is extremely expensive.
some people grow within the bank, but it is very political.
Cons – totally lock of regard for financial advisors, they are treated as sales assistants. There is lack of guidance and no clear expectation from senior management. Change the title or change the behavior towards them...
Advice to Senior Management – Have a manual for new employees; the first few months is very stressful as you have no idea what to do or who to ask.
Have clear guidelines and expectations. Have a different manager for the FAs that can advocate for them... that could help so it is not just one voice (the Senior Financial Advisor's voice)

Current Employee – been working at Union Bank N.A. full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Good benefits: 401(k), medical, dental, etc. Strong commitment to keep long-time employees, seemingly without regard for competence or attitude. Strong commitment to diversity.
Cons – Not at all modern technologically. Very difficult to navigate the bureaucracy. Lots of angry people. Little regard for common sense or standard business practices. Very insular. Often rude.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire educated, technologically proficient people. Pay them well and treat them well. Get rid of poor performers.

Current Employee – been working at Union Bank N.A.
Pros – 1. Pension plan
2. Lots of room for improvement in practices for those willing to slog through the bureaucracy
3. Decent compensation
4. Most employees are pleasant enough; not a lot of jerks
Cons – 1. Lots of long-term employees with mediocre talent; people need to be fired or whipped into shape
2. Extremely bureaucratic
3. Poor coordination between departments
Advice to Senior Management – Hurry up and clean house. It appeared to me that the newer employees were expected to accomplish quite a lot while the long-term folks who were often times unimpressive were allowed to continue to go through motions that were not very value-added. You probably are aware of this, but I think once people reach their 5 year mark and qualify for the pension, they start to look hard outside of the bank.

Current Employee – been working at Union Bank N.A.
Pros – The company paid pretty well. No company likes doing lay off but given that they are sometimes inevitable, UB were perhaps the more generous ones with their severance package.
Cons – Terrible IT systems leading to a lot of wasted time collecting data. Lot of duplicate work across different departments. Complacent. Lot of wastage. Doesn't really care about employee morale or development.
Advice to Senior Management – Define your priorities and your roadmap to achieving them. You need to have a more merit based system to employee advancement.

Current Employee – been working at Union Bank N.A.
Pros – Good compensation, interesting projects to be proud of, great pension plan, excellent benenfits, flexible working hours, great employees to work with and a very stable place to work during a recession.
Cons – Union Bank has a stressful work environment. Most staff members in IT are asked to be On Call 24/7 about 50% of the time, some 100% of the time, to support systems. There are few opportunities for training because we are too busy to break away from our projects. The bank is understaffed as a whole.
Advice to Senior Management – Work to improve high level planning to keep project schedules from colliding with other projects. Find ways to improve employee quality of life and lower stress. An understaffed IT will never be able to make improvements fast enough to match increasing demands.

Current Employee – been working at Union Bank N.A.
Pros – Health plans and basic benefits are good.
Cons – Management throws CSR's under the bus for their incompetence in not attaining huge numbers in new sales during worst recession in 50 years. Update your DOS computers and treat your employees as human beings.
Advice to Senior Management – Upper management needs to check on branches with large turn overs in employees.....this is costly for training and what's wrong with the Branch managers not making sure each new employee is getting the support once placed at the branch??? Someones not paying attention to the Branches under their supervision in Southern California. Customers in small communities notice badly run operations and having the worst interest rates in the banking business doesn't motivate new business either. Your public reputation is taking a beating from your incompetent branch managers.
