    Pros

I liked the team that I worked on which was Unisys Team Chicago. We served as the Outsourced IT Solutions Team for all of the City of Chicago Employees and facilities. I had the privilege of working with some of the High Profile staff at the City. I was primarily remote from the main office, but got to go to the office whenever needed. I used those times to talk to some of the other Remote, LAN, R&D, Unix, and WAN engineers. I also formed great relationships with management and even adopted a member of the management staff as a mentor during my time there. Ed Tyson has passed away unfortunately, but what he's taught me has manifested into a great career in IT. There was plenty opportunity to advance ones career on the Chicago Team, acquire reimbursed certifications, hands on opportunity, and enterprise wide knowledge of IT and IT infrastructure. The position was contract with a guaranteed 40hrs/week.

    Cons

Management then didn't know how to communicate effectively with the team/employees. They did their best to convey the urgency of certain issues, but it sometimes wasn't well received in the manner it was delivered. This may have very well changed as of this moment as I'm writing this, but I feel it's an opportunity to bring to light some issues that can help boost morale and speak up to management as some employee's may not feel comfortable. Some of the smaller contracting companies that the employee's come from may also practice unfair processes and the contracting employee may feel stuck and that there isn't a way for anything to get better for their situation while on the project contracting.

    Pros

If you're looking for an opportunity to get into the IT field and pile on experience, this is the place.

    Cons

Stagnation, lack of raises, dwindling benefits, increasing cost of benefits. Dwindling travel allowances.

    Advice to Management

In this day and age, tightening the belts are a requirement in order to move forward but doing so at the cost of employee morale is not a way forward.

    Pros

Flexible work hours, mostly nice co-workers, low-level management is good

    Cons

New CEO might not have a clue, recent big layoffs in engineering have left everything short-handed

    Advice to Management

Tell us what the new direction is supposed to be -- "just keep doing what you're doing" isn't cutting it

    Pros

The Unisys That Was was a great place to work for me and many others, so I and others stayed there many years. Most of my managers were really good. Very flexible work environment.

    Cons

The Unisys That Is is going through wrenching change. No longer a stable place to work. The Fear is back and will be there for some time. A really good place to get experience if you are just starting out. CEO too new to rate.

    Advice to Management

Transferring work to cheaper, much lower-productivity labor is a huge risk. In the long run, you get what you pay for.

    Pros

Large, stable company. Well known name recognition. Strong global presence with well placed data center for hosted solutions and data security.

    Cons

Reduced sales comp plans by 40 percent in 2015. 20 percent employee reduction expected in 2015. Company is still trying to figure out what markets to go after.

    Advice to Management

Show a better appreciation for sales people and invest more in good pre sales engineers.

    Pros

Well established and well known in the Information Technology industry dating back to the first computing machines. Huge support for working from home.

    Cons

Company constantly adjusting. Restructuring due to new president, or regional changes are par for the course. Much of the company is older, and there isn't much done to knowledge share or mentor younger or less experienced. Mostly trial by fire.

    Advice to Management

Hire or train personnel to reduce project overload.

    Pros

Strong resources to help formulate solutions to customer problems. Essentially, a real broad and deep reach back which proved invaluable in engagement.

    Cons

Management did not know about my forward engagement. Months passed before I was recognized as being under someone at the management level. Manager cannot forget about their forward deployed!

    Advice to Management

Infuse REGULARLY face-to-face meetings between forward deployed and managers on an agreed upon schedule.
