Former Employee – worked at Unisys full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFantastic people, especially in the Federal division, loads of experience and cross-learning opportunities. There is much to be said for their legacy and what you can learn from it.

ConsComplete management flux, lack of creativity and vision for growth. Still trying to hold onto the past.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere are a lot of old dogs in the company, if you want to progress you will need to find new life blood in the ranks without destroying the network you have. A tough balance

Former Employee – worked at Unisys full-time for more than a year

ProsThe location (Boise) was nice, the customer was reasonable, the work was stimulating, and most of my co-workers were friendly, professional, and good to work with.

ConsThe turnover at the highest levels of the project management team was problematic, and there never seemed to be much, if any, support from the corporate level

Advice to Senior ManagementUnisys sold off this division of the company, so no advice would be relevant at this point.

Indianapolis, IN

Former Employee – worked at Unisys full-time for more than 7 years

ProsPay and benefits for a contracting company were decent compared to others in the market.

ConsRaises were few and far between. Little to no advancement, and they really have no interest in developing employees. Environment was nice to begin with but eventually morale decreased and the work environment was not enjoyable at all. All in all a lot issues were related to the client that Unisys was contracted to work for.

Advice to Senior ManagementRaises would have been nice, developing and growing employees is an investment worth taking.

Chantilly, VA

Current Employee – been working at Unisys as a contractor for more than a year

ProsLots of talent within the company--at least the teams I interacted with. Everyone seems very knowledgeable in their areas of expertise. Management has upheld its word and promises and has been honest and up-front with both the good and the bad news.

ConsInter-team and intra-team communication is often lacking, and there have been times when no one seems to want to stand up and own a system/device/process.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe "try-before-you-buy" sub-contracting setup can be quite frustrating to new hires and, often, good people are lost because of that frustration. At the same time, some direct hiring does seem to take place and isn't always "spot-on" for skill matches, personality matches, or other factors. There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason why one person is hired directly while another is brought on as a sub-contractor in a "try-first" situation. I'd recommend that it be all or nothing with the hiring process--either everyone needs to be hired on from sub-contractor status, or hiring needs to be direct for all. I wouldn't call the current setup "discrimination", but certainly is lacking in effectiveness.

Reston, VA

Current Employee – been working at Unisys full-time for more than 3 years

ProsHighly technical staff directly supporting contracts that are keeping the business going.

ConsExecutive management is too internally focused versus developing customer relationships. This is one of the main reasons for declining business.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more time with customers and staff rather than focusing on internal politics.
Review the management structure. Very top heavy and too much bureaucracy to be effective.
