I have been working at Unisys full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Unisys is a very customer-focused organization and that is its niche in the outsourcing industry. It has the agility to quickly respond without a lot of bureaucracy There is a family feel when you work at an office location. Unisys also offers many home-based positions with flexible hours. My management has been very supportive of family priorities when they arise. I have had the opportunity to advance, holding 4 positions of increasing responsibility over 7 years.

    Cons

Unisys does not demonstrate the process discipline that you would expect from a service provider. There is a tendency to underestimate and understaff the resources needed for a project to contain cost, and when the project goes red, you can have all the resources you need, but the damage is done at that point. Unisys has also been challenged to manage effectively within a matrixed tower structure. This has had a negative impact on morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Right-size project staff at the start. Don't undercut staffing to win a deal. Reorganize with a vision and a plan that is communicated to the team. It appears we are restructuring frequently like a "flavor of the week". Require timecard approvals for all staff regardless of role. Unisys seems to go through stages of poaching leadership from other companies. Make your own identity rather than recreating another company's culture. Changes to the performance review process have taken away incentive to top-perform (less categories of performance, and rules around percentages of top achievers and non-performers). Not every team has non-performers.

    I worked at Unisys

    Pros

I enjoyed the work and the people. Compensation was in line with market. Lot of experience and expertise you could call on.

    Cons

Not well know in the market place and company was (still is) in general decline. Opportunities for growth were limited and shrinking.

I have been working at Unisys full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible, semi challenging, descent pay. laid back culture. established company. world renown and respected. I like the people and the daily work. I see myself being here for a long time

    Cons

I am concern about the overall pay and how much I will end up getting paid near retirement. I wish I could get better 401k. otherwise, the company is great

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

better 401k. get rid of performance and development plans, they are just annoying and nobody takes them serious

    I worked at Unisys

    Pros

Challenging cross functional emphasis. Rewarding experience. Good work-lif balance. One of my former bosses always told me "family always comes first".

    Cons

Not all bosses would follow the above advise. Expectations were different for different departments. Maybe I was just lucky. But overall company values were family and group oriented.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a more consistent review process of employees. Mine were quite different depending on who I was working for at the time.

I have been working at Unisys as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to move around the company and try and learn new things. Great exposure to new technologies and concepts as well as varying roles of Information Technology. The people you work with will be your best friends and will feel like family in a matter of days or weeks. You'll actually LOOK FORWARD to going into the office, not because of the job, but because of the people you have the honor of sharing a work space with. Team building events and parties every time you turn around. It's a big ol' company that acts like a small start up and that's a good thing when it comes to environment, attitude and work relationships. The ability to work from home as often as necessary for certain positions is also very nice.

    Cons

Their purse strings are extremely tight when it comes to compensation. You may find that your pay isn't quite in line with your skill set and market value. Not just your self-assessed market value but what you may actually find as offers from other companies. It may sound like a petty gripe, and it is, but it's my only REAL complaint. You'll see some people who should be earning virtually double their pay but are not because they got caught in a freeze.

The benefits are good but not phenomenal by any stretch of the imagination. Similar to what you'll find out there in other big companies but I've seen small companies with better benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I really don't have anything to advise as the management is very in touch with their employees from my experience. They listen and take action as quickly as possible. They'll fight for you and stand by your side every step of the way so I have nothing of benefit to add.
