    I worked at Unisys

    Pros

Challenging cross functional emphasis. Rewarding experience. Good work-lif balance. One of my former bosses always told me "family always comes first".

    Cons

Not all bosses would follow the above advise. Expectations were different for different departments. Maybe I was just lucky. But overall company values were family and group oriented.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a more consistent review process of employees. Mine were quite different depending on who I was working for at the time.

Its great to have guaranteed hours and I've made great friends. The work environment is enjoyable. The management that cared are great.

I have been working at Unisys as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to move around the company and try and learn new things. Great exposure to new technologies and concepts as well as varying roles of Information Technology. The people you work with will be your best friends and will feel like family in a matter of days or weeks. You'll actually LOOK FORWARD to going into the office, not because of the job, but because of the people you have the honor of sharing a work space with. Team building events and parties every time you turn around. It's a big ol' company that acts like a small start up and that's a good thing when it comes to environment, attitude and work relationships. The ability to work from home as often as necessary for certain positions is also very nice.

    Cons

Their purse strings are extremely tight when it comes to compensation. You may find that your pay isn't quite in line with your skill set and market value. Not just your self-assessed market value but what you may actually find as offers from other companies. It may sound like a petty gripe, and it is, but it's my only REAL complaint. You'll see some people who should be earning virtually double their pay but are not because they got caught in a freeze.

The benefits are good but not phenomenal by any stretch of the imagination. Similar to what you'll find out there in other big companies but I've seen small companies with better benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I really don't have anything to advise as the management is very in touch with their employees from my experience. They listen and take action as quickly as possible. They'll fight for you and stand by your side every step of the way so I have nothing of benefit to add.

    Pros

Exellent work/life balance. Access to very good online resources for professional certification and development. Competitive salary and annual reviews. Opportunities to advance within.

    Cons

Not necessarily a con but you must keep knowledge in your field/specialty current. If you have to switch projects you must be ready to go.

I have been working at Unisys full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Flexible Work Hours, great people, culturally diverse, ability to grow/expand role. I always feel valued and that my voice is heard and opinions considered. I've not encountered that in many previous companies. Majority of the team is professional, works hard, and thinks outside the box to accomplish the goals.

    Cons

New hires are not always effectively vetted in the interview process causing work delays and residual issues - in a fast paced project, there is not time for this. Some employees with significant tenure (15+ years) are stuck in their old ways and not flexible to learning better methodology or streamlined processes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Establish effective interviewing and candidate selection methodology to procure the right candidates the first time.

I worked at Unisys full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good company, but got messed up in merger with Sperry.

    Cons

Take 2 $3.5 B companies with 15,000 employees and wind up with one $3.5 Billion company with 7,500 employees. Lost half the work force and have the revenues, thus losing a lot of customers. Dumb, greedy management on both companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think thru the mergers in the future because this one is a failure
