I have been working at United Rentals full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

#1 The benefits - full dental, eyes, medical 401k, paid vacations, six paid sick days, three floating (birthday, Anniversary DOH +1 more). Mediocre annual training. Fairly competitive pay.

    Cons

Must own tools, inability to take vacation when company is busy (summer). No real opportunity for advancement, once you have a job it's hard to transfer to another location or level ie sales. Feel stuck, need to be "customer oriented" when dealing with ignorant users (read: Dumb people). Pay raises seem to be mere cost of living adjustments versus raise. Must have two sets of tools (you are a shop and road tech)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe a program which allows technicians to rotate between branches. More regional town hall meetings so the lower techs can address some issues with management.

I worked at United Rentals full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

job security, biggest rental company in united states. Great stock. Have made some good moves over the last five years and have put themselves in position to succeed.

    Cons

No matter how hard you work as a territory manager your pay will not go up because they are constantly changing territories and commission structure. Management is bad about putting equipment sales in house accounts so they don't have to pay the reps a commission on it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you have to spend money to make money.

I worked at United Rentals full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I loved working at URI because of the company benefits, values and mission. I knew that Mike and Matt would take this company to the top, which they did. My skills were honed at this company. I had a great manager who taught me so much. Working at URI were the happiest and proudest days of my life.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement for women at our location. I honestly thought URI genuinely cared about long time employees but I believe the old adage "out of sight, out of mind" applies now that the company has grown so large.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire back employees who were laid off during the economic downturn. Women need more opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Internal politics and intercompany issues are challenging at times when trying to take care of customers.

I have been working at United Rentals full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

URI is very strong on equipping all employee's with the tools to perform their job to the fullest. They have very good access to the proper technology and processes to make it a very successful career.

    Cons

It is a very large Corporation so it can be difficult to understand the direction we are pushing at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be great to get a chance to interface with them a bit more. I know they're schedules are incredibly full, but if they could find the time it would be great for introductions and town hall meetings.

I have been working at United Rentals full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company is focused on proftable growth, with an expereinced managemnt team in place to drive results, Rewards employee's and stockholders.

    Cons

Time managemnt can be challenging, as Initiaves are introduced. Process'es in place across business disciplines can be reactive, manuel and time consuming, that at times can take focus off of providing the best prodcuts and services for our customer base.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work to remove obstacles, focus strategies, where as the field Branch Managemnt, Middle Managemnt and upper Management can focus more on customer acquistion, retention and service.
