I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people I worked with were wonderful and were like family. The site promoted employee engagement and the salary was very fair.

    Cons

Too many stringent corporate policies which stifled creativity and innovation. Micro-management takes the joy out of doing one's job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micro-managing and allow the various sites to do what they do best. They don't have to be clones of each other.

I have been working at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Rock solid financially and employee friendly.

Great pay and decent benefits. You can get rich there in no time.

    Cons

That said, United is an iceberg to its customers and the general public. They are shamelessly elitist. There are a whole lot of multi-millionaires running around those buildings that no one can figure out what they do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Live up to your talk.

Instead of announcing the 100th " we built a park in Topeka" press release, or deluding oneself that weeding a hospital's front yard is being socially conscious, try to make sure no one who works for you ever makes $22K a year. Additionally, senior management pay, of which I was one, is over generous. It was too painful to watch people who make $600,000 a year, let go single, 50 year old women and then fly first class, drink fine wine and talk about how tough it was. There's a better way and we all know what it is.

    Do it !

    Pros

UHG is a very stable and successful company. I feel like I don't have to worry about them going under or laying off tons of people. They have a solid future. Almost every single person I have met there is super nice and helpful. Each boss I have had has been very understanding and accommodating to my needs as my family is very important to me. I could see working for them for a long time. Many of the people I meet here have worked for UHG for 20, 30 years or more. Good benefits.

    Cons

You can get stuck in a position and never grow or get promoted. Raises are very small.
