    Pros

This organization provided an opportunity to interact with talented individuals from around the globe. The PTO and option to telecommute made for excellent work / life balance.

    Cons

Poor local management can make it difficult to function as a team. Overall matrixed structure allowed for a shirking of responsibility among some employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide a way for bad local management issues to be addressed in a timely, serious manner.

    Pros

Great career options given the breadth and size of the company. Fairly progressive from an IT standpoint again given it's size.

    Cons

Lots of typical challenges for a huge company but the company acknowledges it and is trying to address them. It's a very self serve culture which may not be for everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the company a smaller company feel by being more present to the people in your organizations. Get out of your office and walk the floor and engage folks.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The definition of a strong reliable, stable employer that you can be assured will be here tomorrow.

Served on an Operational Discipline Committee which the very idea of having one is a pro in of itself. Again, my feelings towards e company are of gratitude as they enabled me discover/narrow my natural skill set , a key moment in my career development.

    Cons

Rapid Growth with poor planning has led to the ascension of individuals lacking the appropriate skills to manage their positions currently causing quality employees to leave for other companies while promoting mediocrity and poor view of the company. I expect this to change eventually as upper management is impressive, though weeding out the "excellence suppressing" middle management types is difficult in such a complex industry. View shared by a few Six Sigma Blackbelts I discussed the issue with while employed with me. I believe they have remained with the company and the issue is progressing slowly but surely.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice, just gratitude for the experience/opportunity to contribute/develop my business repertoire.

    Pros

Ability to telecommute, flex schedules, good benefit packages

    Cons

Quick to put people on performance warnings, difficulty moving from one department to another.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The stringent, computerized metric evaluations neglect to consider the employee as a whole.

    Pros

very open to you moving to different teams within the organization (and there are tons), since I have been their it seems like upper management is making the right moves to decrease office politics and do things the right way.

    Cons

Cannot offer their own health insurance, the health insurance we do get is pretty bad (as in high deductibles, etc). Also on most teams you have to switch jobs to get a significant increase in pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your talent rather than letting them leave to other companies.
