I worked at Universal Health Services

    Pros

Decent benefits. Several good leaders. Attempting to change culture to a quality driven organization.

    Cons

Promote "yes men" and folks who just are content and stay.
    Do not fulfill promises
Micromanagement from the top level, including C suite
Professional accomplishments are overshadowed by personal feelings that are never based on facts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow your talent in house better. Develop leaders by creating actual plans that have real actionable goals. Think about the patients more than the bottom line.

  2.

Only cares about the bottom line (money and filling beds) and not the employee.

I have been working at Universal Health Services full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I honestly can just say it's a job.

    Cons

Benefits are horrible and constantly get cut. Only care about filling beds and how to profit from whose in them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should focus more on your employees. Happier work environment and perks make for better workers; therefore a better company. Look at Google.

Increase salaries to be competitive with your competition.

I have been working at Universal Health Services full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Beginning to recognize the areas in need of improvement.

    Cons

Some areas of improvement have languished for an extended period of time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to appreciate your employees and allow them a voice. Look for ways to improve the patient experience. Upgrade the facility when able and present a more professional image to our community. The area of Nursing care needs to improve. Hire more CNAs if possible otherwise re-train the ones we have.

I worked at Universal Health Services full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Fairly decent benefits and a consistent paycheck--that's about it.

    Cons

Toxic work environment, poor management, little regard for employees. Constantly under review by state and federal regulatory agencies. Despite 10 different CEOs over a period of just four years at the Kansas City facility, UHS get can't seem to get it right. CMS has placed them on a ninety day decertification track more than once.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a clue UHS, either put some serious resources behind your Kansas City facility or close it. Your reputation in the behavioral health community is laughable.

I have been working at Universal Health Services full-time

    Pros

Competitive salary. The number of health care professionals (vs finance professionals) at the corporate office is growing, which is an attempt to redirect the focus of the company on the importance of population health management rather than solely hospital operations management.

    Cons

The company is short-sighted on profits and willing to compromise care to achieve the needs of Wall Street. Corporate management has deferred to the expertise of physicians practicing within the hospitals, rather than an interdisciplinary approach to patient care, which is leading to significant profit wasting, conflict with the supporting staff and low employee morale. Values are merely listed on the employee brochure, but are not woven into the culture or expectations of employees. The HR focus is disproportionately in favor of recruitment rather than retention and employee development. Turnover amongst the C-suite executives at the hospitals as well as at the corporate office create much disruption to the success of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support quality care initiatives focused on improving health outcomes and the money will follow - we no longer live in 1975, and the business model should evolve accordingly.

I have been working at Universal Health Services part-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is an pportunity to work with a variety of behavioral health populations. Part of the facility is new. Full-time staff can do continuing education hours on company time.

    Cons

Management overwhelmed and understaffed. There is bullying in the facility, and managers are inconsistent and often take out frustrations on staff. Pay is low for this market. Caseloads are high and the facility relies on PRN staff to work full-time without benefits. A lot of turnover at the C-level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees are people, not interchangeable units of work. Treat us a little better and we'll put up with the low pay - we really do love our patients.

I have been working at Universal Health Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You get to work with individuals in need and change their lives one day at a time.

    Cons

There is no trust within this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to hear your employees needs and concerns. The people at the bottom are the reason why people love your company and the individuals of the forefront should be heard and acknowledged.
