    Pros

    May be a bit of higher paid salary, but they would probably charge this to the clients anyways.

    Cons

    This is a typical "permanent staff look-alike contract worker's place". They lure you in with a competitive salary and charge it back to the client. Once project is over, out the door you go. Management is non-existent, as every man for himself attitude is easily perceived. Once you're in their door, you need to find a "sponsor" regardless of your competency to be on the "project roster list". Or else, you'll be gone out the door, either forced or by your will. No such thing as development. They are on the borderline between being an actual corporate organization and scammers. Do yourself a favor and not even look in this direction unless, you want some quick bucks earned from contract type work (by the way, good luck with this). My lessons learned the hard way and I am trying my best to protect the innocent mass.

    Can you even call yourself "management" when you're not listening or doing anything to fix the cancerous morale environment?

    Pros

    Pay is good. Enjoy it while it lasts.

    Cons

    Management is ridiculously incompetent. Layoffs galore. Don't expect ANY job security. Politics. It's very dog eat dog. And these guys are borderline corporate criminals. The project work was meaningless and boring, and even hard to come by. Don't expect any severance, they'll make up some BS excuse so they don't have to pay it. I see things getting much worse for this company.

    You should work at Taco Bell, you are more suited for that work.

    Pros

    The pay is over market, but you are basically selling your soul. As soon as a project ends, you will be laid off and overpriced

    Cons

    There is no loyalty to the employees, they staff big for a project and then release quick when it is over. They say the company is doing better now, but that is a sign of the market picking up, not the business itself doing better. Big pay and big bonuses are paid at the top (yes, we hard workers know about that), kills morale. The CEO is coldhearted and unfeeling about the staff, current and former, but he is high on himself; you can see his picture and name variations on many of the company initiatives (Uncle Sam picture ring a bell with anyone?). They cut the benefits back, 401k matching percentage, which once was really good, was affected as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Some of the top management has left on their own; Business Development, Engineering, Finance, HR, Project Management to name a few. These people were making good money, so why leave? Because of the non-loyal, treat you like dirt, "I'm not listening, because you are beneath me" attitude of the CEO. Well Mr. CEO, one day you will realize you are only as successful as the people doing the actual work. When this ship sinks, you will probably still be the captain, but you may have no loyal crew. Curious as to whether you can come off your pedestal throne long enough to even notice.

    Managers form Amec they actually brought managers in from another company that failed, why would you do that???
    They Lie to people to get them to stay and when the time comes to go into your new position they give it to someone who has ass-kissed enough to get the position not the person who deserves it.
    They have someone in IT who is a complete failure at what he does since he has been hired they have lost All of their Server Support and most of their Helpdesk people at least the ones who were worth anything. why cant management see that when you loose 6 people in the matter of 2 months something is wrong!
    I watched Senior people leave this company for competitors for over a year and noone did anything about it. I watched as we lost employees when i started there was over 3000 employees now the company is at only 750 something is wrong.

    The pay was not bad. If you are limited on education or have no experience, this may be a place you would want to work.

    Cons

    Management: or should I say lack of. The leadership team will not communicate with the employees. I do not know of a single person in the upper management that has the experience to be in the position.

    Listen to your employees. Just because you are in a position doesnt mean you have the capability to do the job.

    Pros

    Location and pay are good; some good people though they had mass layoffs of a lot of hard-working employees.

    Cons

    No fairness in promotions and projects. Very little training and opportunity for advancement. Nepotism and cronyism are rampant. Management cannot seem to get it together with a strategy; there were numerous organizational changes in a very short period of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't promote people just because you like them or are related to them. Trust your own employees instead of having an army of consultants to get work done. Don't treat your employees like garbage; they can figure out when your "town hall" meetings are staged!!

    Pros

    Competitive salary and benefits for full time staff. Recruiters will negotiate aggressively to bring talented people onboard. Most of the fellow staff/employees are very friendly and intelligent people.

    Cons

    Management is horrible and very political. You will often feel like a pawn in a petty game where management staff are primarily concerned in their own job security and furthering their own careers at any cost, with staff frequently getting caught in the crossfire. The resulting politics and fear amongst staff will often take precedence over actually producing quality work. It's not uncommon to receive conflicting direction from your many "bosses" and you will be frequently hindered in getting your job done efficiently as a result. UPI does not value employees and will lay off even the most talented staff when business is slow, especially if you are deemed "overhead" I.E support staff, HR, accounting, permitting, etc. Our recently acquired Calgary office (formerly IPPCL) is slowly but surely following in the footsteps of the Houston (read the other reviews here) as I am witnessing the departure of many good people, both due to being pushed out and also many leaving of their own accord. I've always liked management in Calgary but they are slowly losing their grip on this office to Houston. The Calgary president (who now reports to Houston due to the acquisition) had a policy of keeping good staff whenever he could even when work was slow. This was so that he could retain loyal and skilled workers who were ready to tackle the next big project as soon as business picked up again. This philosophy seems to be changing as UPI management in Houston slowly takes more and more control with each and every "alignment meeting" they host with Calgary staff. Do yourself (and your career) a favour and stay clear of this place unless you are looking for some quick "in-and-out" contract work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    While I doubt that any advice coming from an employee would actually be heeded by management, I would say that fear and politics is the biggest internal threat to the company. Focus on fixing the company culture from within, I.E focus on doing what you were actually hired to do as opposed to chasing large bonuses and short term personal gain at the expense of others. Staff will only be as loyal as you are to them.

    Pros

    401k match is better than most. Cost of insurance is reasonable. Combined engineering principles allow for a full solution package to the client.

    Cons

    UniversalPegasus is extremely top heavy to the point in which most managers have one to two direct reports. The termination of employees whom have significant foothold in the industry has cost the company projects as the clients follow the employee. Employees are resigning on the average of 10 a week. Upon the initial merger of UniversalEnsco and Pegasus International, there was a total of 1500+ employees of which now there is less than 950. The entire automation department has left due to upper management restriciting their ability to satisfy the client. The survey department is running a skeleton crew now and is in the talks to be sold. The IT department has just recently lost all of its top tier support with 4 key employees leaving in 2 weeks due to micro management from IT managers. The pay is based upon a market analysis which is lower than the competitors. Too many chiefs and not enough indians.

    Pay employees what they are worth and not use the "market analysis" excuse for low pay. Hire more workers and less managers. Train managers on how to speak to and interact with direct reports. Eliminate a few of the over paid Business systems managers as there is no need for 5 highly paid managers leading 15 underpaid direct reports.

    Pros

    The paycheck is above market average. They have multiple projects to run, the business is more stable than its competitors.

    Cons

    -lots of managers with no degree, rude to the employee, and have no respect to anyoe
    -employess either worry about layoff or play office politics
    -project management are poor, always have to wait the last minute to get response, than work overtime
    -no promotion or raise until you complain. You have to be your boss's buddy to get promoted.

    get rid of the old "Buddy System", promote people with talent and knowledge. Encourage training and industry knowledge share. build up a career development plan for every employee

    Pros

    In normal circumstances the pay is fairly good for someone with a limited education, but for the field it is very low. Decent job if you're desperate and need the short term money.

    Cons

    No great opportunities for advancement. A promotion means that you are in a higher position, but also that you have less experience in that position than someone else so you are more likely to be laid off with no chance to go back down to your original position. The work is unpredictable. They do not care about your performance when it comes to raises or advancement. It’s who your friends are in the company or just being at the right place at the right time. Regardless if it is your fault or not, if the job you are currently on is ending there is no reassignment based on experience, you simply get laid off. Paychecks are decent overall, but hourly is only a step out of minimum wage so overtime doesn't help all that much. For the past 3 years there have been no bonuses.

    Take care of your employees. Base a person's wage and whether or not to be laid off on experience, not friends and luck.
