I have been working at University Hospitals of Cleveland full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I like it because I feel like we're always setting the bar so we keep improving. The benefits are awsome. I also like the fact the promote education.

    Cons

You really cant advance unless you have a degree. Raises are very small.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Its a dog and pony show. You kiss a lot of butt. Some of the management are unprofessional.

I worked at University Hospitals of Cleveland full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent compensation, upward mobility, benefits, flex-time available for office staff, overtime available for hourly workers (but not mandatory).

    Cons

Some managers can be incompetent and/or condescending. Petty arguments are allowed to get out of hand.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really make sure the folks that are hired into management are capable of performing their jobs, as well as handling the group of people working under them.

Former Employee - Department Manager in Cleveland, OH

I worked at University Hospitals of Cleveland full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Autonomy as a Manager. Culture was great. Chance for advancement (if not at main campus, then up to other healthcare campuses)

    Cons

Good-ole-boys networking. Loyalty to advance employees who should not be advanced when newer staff are more qualified. Management that has been in place a long time who are ineffective.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't just promote your buddies and friends whom you have long time working relationships with. By not giving younger staff (those with less seniority) a chance to move up from coordinator or supervisor ranks you cause discontent and resentment.

    Pros

UH provides development opportunities for employees at all levels. Benefits and perks are good. The environment is truly focused on providing the best possible patient care.

    Cons

Leadership puts too much responsibility on staff members and supervisors. Not enough resources to effectively and proactively manage day to day operations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer appropriate support to middle leaders so they can effectively manage daily operations while also having time for strategic planning.
