I worked at University of Calgary full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great training environment for graduate students. Within certain faculties there are a lot of opportunities for scholarships and awards. Ample opportunity to attend scientific conferences.

    Cons

Lots of variation between different faculties and supervisors. Minimum stipends and funding opportunities vary drastically between faculties, programs, and even labs. Very heavy workload in comparison to amount of pay. Even with a good (ie. $30000/year) stipend, it's hard to live in comfortably in Calgary.

I have been working at University of Calgary as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

    -Excellent environment for students.
-essentially the levels of the organization (student calling program) that one will see is maintained and operated by students.
-a considerable level of autonomy from other departments within the organization

    Cons

-due to the nature of the business running in conjunction with the academic year, the organization only operates for two months in the summer. Otherwise, this is a job anyone would feel comfortable in as a summer work term.

Former Employee - Marketing Research Assistant in Calgary, AB (Canada)

I worked at University of Calgary part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I was hired by one of my professors during my educational career here at the Haskayne School of Business. I worked for 10 months as a Marketing Research Assistant. It was very convenient, comfortable, and allowed me to interact with many students and professors. It looks great on my resume and I have a great reference (Mehdi Mourali) from it.

    Cons

There was a hiccup in getting my first pay deposit, but other than that I don't have any complaints.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My interview process was very comfortable but I have interviewed for other positions and having that many people in the room can be very intimidating.
