    Pros

Great city, good department for research, but only if you find the right advisor and research group

    Cons

Research is a solitary activity, and your experience can be greatly shaped by who your advisor is

    Pros

Easy, part time job. Perfect for students and if you are simply trying to make some spending money while having a heavy work load

    Cons

The work gets really boring at times. So make sure to bring your homework or stuff to study while your on the job

    Advice to Management

Better organization with the emails and the new software to clock in. It was a little sketchy when they switched to the new software and it glitched so many times

    Pros

While working at the RSF, I am allowed very flexible hours in a friendly work environment. The 3 hour shifts allow my time to be spread out in between classes.

    Cons

The pay is somewhat low, and there are sometimes some moody patrons, but that can be said about many service jobs.

    Advice to Management

Keep working to improve customer service and train new employees more thoroughly. When I first started I had to learn a lot of things on my own.

    Pros

many workshops and additional offers. Nice place to work, great science. Fast and helpful administration.

    Cons

Very competitive environment. Most resources are only for employees of UC Berkeley. Rent and food is very expensive.

    Advice to Management

Consider to improve status of visiting scholars.

    Pros

UC Berkeley offers a very generous benefits package including one of the best available health care plans, pension and 403(b) and 457 plans. Sufficient vacation and sick leave.

    Cons

Gradually increasing contribution to pension plan over the last years lowered the already lower salaries for many employers without major salary adjustments due to inflation.

    Advice to Management

Keep paying good employees good salaries. Increase salaries on a yearly basis and reduce mandatory contribution to pension plan if possible.

    Pros

I worked as a Resident Assistant for UC Berkeley. It was a fulfilling job. It’s really for extroverts though. You’re surrounded by students and they look to you as a resource. I’d say if you’re a people-person, then this job is right for you. One awesome perk is the free meal plan. I appreciated not having to cook my own food. I probably gained a bit of weight from the cafeteria food, but hey I can’t complain about free food. But, overall, I’d say this was a great experience for me.

    Cons

There are a lot of obligations involved in this occupation though. You’re also committed to staying in the halls and being ‘on duty’ many nights out of the week so that’s limiting. It’s fun having events for residents, but you hardly get alone time.

    Pros

Very flexible work hours and freedom to develop course curriculum for a very diverse student population.

    Cons

What used to be an in-class lecture series slowly transformed into an all online course and student interaction - along with my personal enjoyment in teaching the course - suffers because of it.

    Advice to Management

None really... you've done what was asked of you. I'm sure MOOC's cost a lot less to administer and get your enrollment number looking up... but it's just not the same level of education. I guess that's on me to make it work better... but I definitely feel unsupported in that effort

    Pros

Fairly easy-going job with opportunities to grow in knowledge of subject matter. Good benefits as per a public institution.

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement without an advanced degree.
