Student Worker, Positive Experience

Student Worker (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at University of Houston part-time for more than a year

ProsFlexible schedule, printing privileges. Work is easy enough to fit in studying, and there are scholarship opportunities available for students.

ConsNo specialized parking privileges or permit discounts; even my bosses had to fight for parking with us students.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be great if the employees had cheaper parking prices or a special place for staff and faculty parking. I can understand the parking difficulties for the students, but I don't feel that employees should have to put up with as much parking troubles as the students do.

Great Training Opportunity During College

Orientation Team Leader (Former Employee)
Houston, TX

I worked at University of Houston part-time for less than a year

ProsGreat on-campus employer, O-Team was an amazing experience that built upon me professionally. Great management in the Orientation department.

Conslow pay, low hours, low benefits. The opportunity was before internships were viable in my younger years, so built more on leadership and accountability. Some colleagues were very incompetent. Some school staff were really lazy.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay student workers more and give more student benefits like room and board or cougar cash.
