    Great place for further education

PhD Student (Current Employee) Manchester, England (UK)

ProsMy supervisor, and many others within the department were amazing - very supportive and fair. Great collaborative environment promotes learning and team work skills.

ConsSome staff members are very unhelpful - if you're unlucky enough to come into contact with them. There is still a small fraction of elitism within academia, which soured my experience a touch.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook after the staff, and the staff will look after you.

    Awesome research project

Understanding Systems Collaborations (Former Employee) Manchester, England (UK)

ProsWorked on a research project and learned new skills. Incredible atmosphere and a really nice supervisor. Discovered many opportunities and met new people from that research area.

ConsSometimes you can get less supervision than expected but it is all fine because the project was so exciting and there is always someone around that can help if you ask the right questions.

Examinations Administrator (Former Employee) Manchester, England (UK)

ProsGreat place to work - good staff benefits; you feel as though you are listened to and respected. Fantastic location close to the city centre. Congeniality amongst staff members.

ConsLack of opportunities for promotion could be a concern.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep on doing what you are doing. Try to break new ground, and expand the number of courses you are given. Don't sell off the north end of campus. Utilise the former UMIST campus.

Convenient part time job with very flexible hours helping as a Student Ambassador

Student Ambassador (Current Employee) Manchester, England (UK)

ProsIncredibly flexible hours, competitive rate of pay, a 'customer' facing job which gives a feeling of satisfaction when you have helped to give people access to vital information that could shape the rest of their future.

ConsThe only real con to the job is that the University are not obliged to give you any hours and if you have a requirement for a lot of hours, this would not be suitable. On the other hand, if like me you need flexibility, this is a pro because you don't have to work at all if you don't want to work any shifts.
