    Pros

the students are kind and helping them is satisfying

    Cons

No resources, cheap & tyrannical administration, do it yourself atmosphere that borders on crazy (like "paint your own office so we don't have to get union labor involved")

    Advice to Management

grow up and stop trying to control everyone who works there

  2. The University treats graduate students like cheap labor rather than trainees

    Pros

Columbia Missouri is a very nice, affordable place to live. The University does have an excellent selection of learning opportunities.

    Cons

I have seen many graduate students exploited by their "mentors" as cheap technical labor. These mentors often make no effort to move the student toward gradation, and instead slow the student down as to keep them in the lab for a couple of extra years.

    Advice to Management

Institute policies to ensure that all graduate students are steadily progressing toward a degree.

    Pros

There are many fine professional individuals working on behalf of the university. Poorly acknowledged on a campus where faculty and leadership offer no support or respect for the efforts of non-academic professionals, many dedicated fundraisers and administrative leaders continue to work on behalf of local students striving to achieve the dream of higher education.

    Cons

Although the need for a strong commuter campus is clear to those living within the metropolitan area, the faculty arrogance and the leadership from Chancellor to Chairs is sadly lost in ego. Dollars are appropriated for vanity faculty projects for leader's spouses and/or favored few faculty and the fundraising leadership follows along this unethical path without comment. Ultimately one is asked to obtain philanthropic dollars from the community at an unrealistic rate, to be spent in an unethical manner.

    Advice to Management

Come down from the ivory tower and treat you capus professionals with respect. Include these individuals in your planning and actually listen to their comments.

    Pros

If you show up everyday and on time they are lenient with you when you want to take time off.

    Cons

This place is horrible for people who actually do their jobs. There is no leadership whatsoever. The students run the show at this place.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest taking a management training course or a communications course so that you are better able to deal with employees and customers.
