I have learned a lot, but have done quite a bit of mundane work.

Research Assistant (Current Employee)
Missoula, MT

I have been working at University of Montana

ProsIt is a good learning environment where you are expected to work hard and keep up to date within your field. There are many opportunities for pursuing your academic interests. The schedule is flexible, and the people are good to work with.

ConsIt is difficult to pursue research interests that are outside the interests of the professors working here, which I think is common. I did not receive very good instruction on how to propose and successfully receive a grant.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think it is necessary to provide a better forum for voicing concerns about the programs of study, and to provide better avenues through which budding researchers can successfully secure grant funding and study novel research.

Great Learning Opportunities

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at University of Montana part-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat learning opportunities for student employees looking to get professional experience while attending college.

ConsAs a student employee you need to work concurrent with your courses which could possibly divert your attention from your studies. The university is very helpful in scheduling around your academic schedule.

UM is a beautiful, friendly and professional place to study and work with.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at University of Montana

ProsGreat environment and nice campus;
Good and professional faculty and staff;
Nice community;
Relative cheap for living and tuition fees

ConsA little bit small. The overall provided information is probably less than the big cities. The culture diversity is also relatively low.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe leaders of UM has been done a great job. They are allocating more money to build the hardware. My only suggestion would be that more money could be spent to the software construction.
