I have been working at University of Wyoming full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Coming to Wyoming is great because you will be able to get lots of individualized attention (the classes are very small). Also, the professors are very accessible and the support from other campus services (financial aid, office of the register, exc..) are always prompt and able to resolve most issues in one trip.

    Cons

The city is very small: there is not very much to do here and if you want more than Walmart you will have to travel two hours or so. Additionally due to the small size of the school there are a lot of just awful teachers for the low level entry classes, making learning difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue with improvements to campus, keep the student activities (especially the Friday night drinking alternative ones - as almost everyone drinks), and continue to keep the low tuition.

    Cons

You have to initiate what you want to do.

I have been working at University of Wyoming full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent colleagues, forward thinking environment. Facilities are first class as is the quality of the workforce. The students are some of the best I've been exposed to. Decent benefits, and excellent flexibility in work schedules.

    Cons

Salaries have been flat for nearly 5 years due to economic downturn. Although the legislature has finally passed a budget that includes some increases, the overall impact of the "no raises" has been that we've begun to loose talented people, especially researchers and support staff. Salaries do not compare well to other regional institutions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to work hard at bringing salaries nearer to par with similar institutions.

I worked at University of Wyoming part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Really easy simple jobs. Can often study/do homework while at job post.

    Cons

Have to makeup being interested in "becoming a leader" if you say you're interested in the benefits they automatically black list you.
Some bureaucratic rules like if need repairman, can't directly call repairman instead have to call repair man's dispatcher but if that person out then stuff stays out of service until next day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Summer Resident Assistants are helpful since they're always around, but during fall/spring semesters the people hired for RA jobs seem to be hard to find.

I worked at University of Wyoming part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Best student job on-campus, working at a computer while studying. Basically getting paid to do what you would be doing otherwise. Supervisors are awesome. Techs are polite and friendly. Scheduling system is fantastic. The community is incredible. The University of Wyoming is an employer that goes out of their way to offer the most to those employed by them. The hiring process is a not terribly long or intense. Beautiful campus and friendly, down to earth people. For a rural area, it is a busy little place.

    Cons

The parking is atrocious. The winters are cold, so combine that with the bad parking - and it can be pretty miserable on the worst days. Also, some of the shifts for student positions are broken down to 1hr slots. Can be quite annoying to work split shifts or one hour slots.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

During the HR process, if an application is submitted and is rejected due to the fact that it is incomplete - it would be nice to be notified before the job closes. Otherwise, this is the best place that I have ever worked.
