    Pros

I love the company culture which is more well-rounded than the average Silicon Valley high profile public companies. If I have to compare it with other companies, it's somewhere in between Google and Amazon - have some fun, well respected in the enterprise world, but not as crazy as Amazon in the work/life balance.

    Cons

It's become a lot bigger and less growth opportunities available for new comers or even old-timers. It has the potential to become Oracle/IBM - that's a double-edge sword - and currently it's a bit uncertain if/when VMware does acquire the parent company, EMC.

    Advice to Management

Don't acquire EMC. VMware is very different than EMC, and keep both companies separate would be in the best interest of both parties. (Three cases in point: PayPal separated from Ebay, Symantec sold Veritas, and Alphabet keeps YouTube from Google. Enough said.)

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great technology Interesting projects Executives seem to care about employees I think this is a great place to work

    Cons

We are starting to see some of the challenges of a big company. More process, tighter controls, slowing growth. Tech debt is a big part of most of the engineering teams.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits, good people

    Cons

Very varied according to group you're in. Some groups are mature but that means they have travel restrictions and no budget, while some groups are like start-ups.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more & work harder to integrate remote employees. One team I was in had no travel - making for total isolation. Team I'm now with gets to attend Kick Off, Tech Summit etc. which feels great, it's worth getting the Kool Aid twice a year.

    Pros

Management really cares about your work/life balance

While there is often good upper management support for security, middle management sometimes wants to skip steps.

    Advice to Management

Slow down and do it right the first time. Figure out a proper update methodology for the whole company.
