I have been working at VMware full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people and collaborative culture are positives. Company has great perks and campus. Leadership is generally solid. Good work/life balance (for tech). Pay/benefits are competitive.

    Cons

Employee talent is stacked on both ends of the spectrum here. There quite a bit going on...too much at times. I would say the staffing is a little top heavy given the lack of processes one would expect for a company of this size. Certainly keeps it interesting though.

I have been working at VMware full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Vmware has nice benefitt. The culture is friendlly. Vmware is not a sweat shop. It has a nice palo altolocation. VMware has great gym. Its campus is beautiful and has lots of trees on campus

    Cons

VMware stock is range bound. The company has lots of dumb VPs. The upper management's all hands meeting are nothing but a mutual admiration club.

I worked at VMware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are interested in learning new technologies from many different vendors, it is hard to beat working here. The benefits are way above average, and most of the management is very helpful with accommodating any needs or requests.

    Cons

The salary is not anything to get excited about---it was the # 1 complaint I heard from others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be a wise move to try to keep people at the company instead of letting your talent walk away because there doesn't really seem to be a career path.

Salaries are lower than competitive companies and carreer advancement is diffucult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get moe clarity with goals and expectations of employees. Management needs to truly support their claim of work/life balance.

    Pros

Great product. Great COO (Eschenbach). Great culture, moves fast.

    Cons

Company needs to incorporate matrix management better. Contention between corporate and field was too high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop bring in senior leads with a hardware background. Your a software company, don't forget it.

I worked at VMware full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay and perks are good. Smartest people I've ever worked with. The technology is cutting edge and interesting to work on.

    Cons

Working remote when the rest of the team was in Palo Alto was a problem. I was somewhat "out of sight, out of mind" and this made getting help from other engineers difficult. It's too bad, because I would still be there if it weren't for this.
