Excellent Company and Community

Intern (Former Employee)
Palo Alto, CA

I worked at VMware part-time for less than a year

ProsThe company is an incredible one to work for - with a shiny new campus in Palo Alto designed to turn the company into a community. This makes going to work a dream.

ConsIt's easy to get lost in the shuffle with the huge scale of the organization.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome work could be done to flatten the org-charts.

New hire but liking it so far

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at VMware full-time for less than a year

ProsExcellent people, salary, benefits, culture. I have yet to run into anyone unfriendly or unwilling to help out. Communication is excellent and there seem to be lots of opportunity to shine here. Internal tools are extensive and technical employees have access to a wealth of internal information and people. The company seems to truly strive for ease of communication and accessibility of information.

ConsThe onboarding process could be a bit more extensive but other than that, nothing negative.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up what you are doing.

A Company built to truly innovate the marketplace

VCloud Hybrid Services Operations Manager (Current Employee)
Coppell, TX

I have been working at VMware full-time for more than a year

ProsIm constantly engaged by a boss who drives me to build it better and rewards me for my hard work. The environment is outstanding, working with some of the best and brightest in the industry. Managers are open to WFH days. Facilities are kept fully stocked with free refreshments, Starbucks coffee and good catered food almost weekly. Upper management has regular informative town halls and promotes free thinking. They charge us to be disruptive in the marketplace, through innovative thinking. Wow what a great decision to say yes to this opportunity.

ConsUh......????? (scratching head) Cant think of a single thing :)

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep it up. You guys rock

How an established company provides growth and sustainability

Senior Project Manager (Former Employee)
Palo Alto, CA

I worked at VMware as a contractor for less than a year

ProsVMware is a fantastic example of how an established company provides the employee, the partner, and the customer the tools and environment of growth and sustainability. No matter what position a person holds within VMware, respect is a the key element to the company fabric. The goals are understood, which translates into a platform of creativity and a sense of belonging. I couldn't wait to get up in the morning and get to work to be in this environment that VMware provided. I've never felt so productive and successful with any other company.

ConsThe only minus to the company is how hard it is to get promoted. I'm concerned that they maybe losing brain trust because deserved promotions are far and few.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink long-term regarding budgets which will support long-term growth. I understand a software company needs to follow the fluctuations of hardware companies, but, don't let solid talent and brain trust exit because of short-term goals. These people really don't want to leave VMware.

Great group of people to work with!

Technical Account Manager (Current Employee)
Cleveland, OH

I have been working at VMware full-time for less than a year

ProsPeople. VMware consistently hires sharp people. The company and the product are easy to represent.

ConsLarge growth adds pain when trying to navigate the organization. Enough of the people in the organization are new that there are times that you don't get answers just because the person doesn't know who to ask. Fortunately, everybody is bright and there are no problems that can't be overcome.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdd further structure to the customer support and problem resolution paths for internal employees to help streamline processes for customers where warranted. I've heard often that there was no resolution on a problem. To be fair, I haven't seen it first hand but it comes up enough from customers in conversation that it should be mentioned.
