A simple 9-5...nothing more.

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
San Francisco, CA

I have been working at VWR International full-time for more than 10 years

Pros- They've provided a steady job for a number of years.
- They've provided a steady job for a number of years.
- They've provided a steady job for a number of years.
- 401k match

Cons- Employee perks... there are none.
- Employee recognition... there are none.
- Employee raises... there are none.
- Managers placed in positions they have no knowledge in...there are plenty.
- Opportunities for advancement... not many.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit being cheap and spend more money on your employees. Recognize and reward them for their hard efforts. Quit putting people into positions they have no clue about...just for the sake of saving their jobs. Though a valiant effort, it's useless if they don't know what they're doing, and everyone else suffers.

Numerous Manager Changes

Sales Representative (Current Employee)
Los Angeles, CA

I have been working at VWR International

ProsSalary Fair Benefits are decent

ConsToo many changes in Managers. Worked at VWR for 3 years and had 7 managers

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the managers in one place before switching them to different positions or letting them switch. Maybe make it a year mandatory before they can decide to switch to a different position.

Like a Plantation

Supply Chain (Current Employee)
San Francisco, CA

I have been working at VWR International

ProsNone, I am not being dramatic, either..

ConsThis company is a "Good ol Boy" company .. sales team consist of one race, while labor type work is open to all. The company is very cheap , does not invest in their employees and has some of the most cheaply made merchandise.

you will work extremely hard and get no where with this company unless you fit a certain crieria or look.

Advice to Senior ManagementI have none, because its not just a management thing but a company thing.

Terrible

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Radnor, PA

I worked at VWR International

ProsAmazingly there are a few good people still at the company that are decent and made working there tolerable at moments. I stress the word FEW though.

ConsManagement is inept, incompetent and somehow succeed despite themselves. Buzz words and powerpoint presentations rule this company - all show, no substance. There is absolutely no concern for employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementThis is not a site they would even considering reading so this is a fruitless exercise. They like to say all the right things, but there is nothing of substance going on behind the scenes. I do not have advice because someone there would have to care about changing the company culture for a reason besides money, and to them, that's all that matters.

Terrible experience

Project Manager (Former Employee)
West Chester, PA

I worked at VWR International

ProsVWR gives access to a wide range of suppliers. Best is to network and find a job at one of the suppliers.

ConsOnly way to advance is to come from the military. Unqualified vets receive preferencial treatment and promotions for no reason.

Advice to Senior ManagementVWR management needs to review the hiring practices of middle managers. Some managers hire based on unfair practices not based on job qualifications or experience but based on superficial reasons.

VWR: A company that needs New management and lots of improvements

Sales Representative (Current Employee)
West Chester, PA

I have been working at VWR International

ProsLots of different products to learn about and sale
Customers know a lot and can teach

ConsSenior management does not Listen to employees, pays only lip service
Has an extra layer of sales management who do very little (some area VP's)
Management singles out reps that voice their opinions publicly for dismissal
Pay scale way Below other medical sales reps (like Pharma)
Benefit have been cut and need improvement
Competitior has a much bigger market share
Lots of internal confusion
High turnover of sales people

Advice to Senior Management1) Let employees rate their managers so you can see management issues exist
2) Improve your global and national account agreement. Make them enforceable
3) Improve sales commission and make them easier to obtain (Not a 5 bucket system)
4) Get rid of dead weight in all areas. VWR has lots of people just "hanging on" till retirement
5) Restore benefits to previous levels
6) Listen to sales and operations by letting sales and operations put together a team to identify issues at the company to John Ballbach bypassing layers where issues exist.
