I have been working at VWR International

    Pros

    1. Weekly fruit is good and healthy.
    2. If you are a new college graduate, this might be a place to start to learn the real world. However, given the current company situation, if you are looking to build a career or to find a comfortable and respectful working environment. try avoiding this company.

    Cons

Company management team does not respect employees in general. Especially when it comes to warehouse associates. When problem arises, employees are the ones who took the hit but the root cause of the problems are from the incompetent poor management. Lots of employees became vengeful and thus start doing wrong things to mess things up intentionally. Eg. " 'Selfish VWR' paint on vwr bathroom wall". I have been working closely with the warehouse associates, what vwr is currently doing is very unfair to both vwr associates and vwr vendors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

company value: "We enable science????" How ? Company business does not reflect on company value.
office culture: Most people are calm and laid back, but incompetent.
leadership: Incompetent, sometimes only look at numbers without analyzing root cause.

DO NOT GO TO SUGAR LANDS WAREHOUSE!!!!!!

I worked at VWR International as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Really great people to work with and by working with i mean the coworkers. Job somewhat easy and after 2 weeks you'll get used to it. The pay is OK but yours might be different because i was hired by Prologistix (bummer) and the pay is OK.

    Cons

Poor management - my supervisor has taught me nothing but how to clock in, clock out, what is PM and how to log in to my RF Scanner. My co-workers has taught me a whole lot about the different functions, ways to make you a better employee, different hints and tips and how to work at a fast but at a efficient rate. If you want managers to watch you while you work then, VWR International in Sugar Land is the job for you.

Organization - they are and i repeat they are so unorganized its ridiculous. During training they lost my paperwork and couldn't find my application strike one Next, my supervisor had to ask a coworker (who has been there for 2 months) how to work my scanner strike two Then, the power point couldn't work and they had to go through two laptops and a cable just to get the thing working and after 45 minutes of watching them i helped them fix it in about 5 minutes. STRIKEOUT!!!!!!

Major Updates - all the systems and equipment are old and bad and my RF Scanner died like twice a day when i pack the system shuts down and or freezes and it causes my numbers to look bad. Another thing Performance Metrics (PM) is awful.

Communication is poor and if your not in the inner circle you will be at that position forever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sugar Lands Management Staff should be fired you guys treat workers like crap and more and more employees are leaving this company because of your dishonesty, organization and leadership skills. Workers from other companies get treated much better then this.

    Very Poor Leadership

I have been working at VWR International full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you are in sales you control your own destiny and have the freedom to make your own schedule.

    Cons

The Senior leadership is not very good at all. The CEO is terrible in front of an audience and shareholders are going to recognize that really soon. In sales the Senior VP's are horrible managers. Most of them have been around a long time and are responsible for flat line growth over last 5 years. There is also nepotism with the VP's and some of them are married to other senior leaders and met on the job. If you do come from another company and you are good they look for ways to diminish your views. The supply chain is not very good either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The CEO has to shake up the senior leadership. These are the same people who have not got it done yet remain and do lateral role reversals. This company needs outside eyes ASAP! Benefits are standard. They recently had an IPO and offered the employees nothing.

I have been working at VWR International full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lately there are no pros about working as a warehouse associate at VWR in Bridgeport, NJ.

    Cons

The management doesn't know what they are doing from the top bosses down to the pion warehouse supervisors. They are concerned with the almighy dollar & they are looking to fire you for any reason. They want quality but they stress quantity & if you don't make your "number" they fire you! They are looking to have people work there for $11.00 an hour. I have been there a long time & believe me it went downhill in the last 5 years!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get off you butts & learn how to manage without LM system!

    Pros

Good benefits-health and dental.Great co-workers to work and learn from. Most employees have been here for more that 8 years,so they very knowledgeable of their jobs and duties.

    Cons

Worst management team I have worked for.Suwanee facility only allows 1 error per month, 2 errors your career is out the door.No growth opportunities or employee input on anything.Employee moral is very low as workers fear for their jobs.Human resource department sweeps all complaints and issues under the rug so the facility can look real good for corporate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Suwanee facility need a complete management overhaul. Do not work here if your looking for a career.

    Pros

There are a few good people left working at VWR, although they are becoming fewer and farther between. The benefits are decent.

    Cons

Management is destroying this company, from the top down. You can find the occasional good manager in the mix but as soon as they are discovered they are briskly shown the door.

Former management (which wasn't perfect) knew the industry and knew their niche in the market space. They are all gone and have been replaced. New management has taken what used to be a good, customer-focused sales organization and done away with the customer-service part of the business. They "threw the baby out with the bath water" and now have a sinking ship on their hands and either don't recognize it or don't care.

In my opinion, they have squeezed every dollar of profit out of the business that they can and now they are just hanging on, trying to run as lean as they can, hoping someone will buy this disaster from them. All the while, they are cutting back, applying pressure on their employees, making everyone worry that their job will end tomorrow and leveraging every tool they have at the end of the quarter to make sure that they get the biggest bonus check that they can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I suspect they don't really take advice but if they did I would say to move on and get some replacements in that care more about the customer and the long-term health of the company than the current regime.

I worked at VWR International full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

They can pay well but only if you threaten to quit (and they want to keep you) or, have negotiated a a higher salary before you start.

    Cons

There used to be leadership by a President for several years that actually understood the business and had worked his way up through the company. That person was unfortunately let go. In the following couple years after that, most of the managers or senior managers with tenure were let go as well. These were very sharp, solid character, well respected people only to be replaced with folks from outside of the industry that don't know what the heck is going on. The sales reps are now getting dumped on and it's really screwed up morale. Massive changes to business processes (that the previous managers knew wouldn't work) were rammed down everyone's throat, caused serious damage to business (as in the worst year in company history), and then switched it back to the way it used to be. It's very disheartening to see what's happened to this company after having worked there for a very long time. The company is still a "sinking ship". Quite frankly, I'm very glad I'm no longer there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It seems that anyone that had offered "advice" is no longer there. There is now a sad case of "The Emperor's New Clothes" going on.

    - They've provided a steady job for a number of years.

    - 401k match

    Cons

    - Employee perks... there are none.
    - Employee recognition... there are none.
    - Employee raises... there are none.
    - Managers placed in positions they have no knowledge in...there are plenty.
    - Opportunities for advancement... not many.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit being cheap and spend more money on your employees. Recognize and reward them for their hard efforts. Quit putting people into positions they have no clue about...just for the sake of saving their jobs. Though a valiant effort, it's useless if they don't know what they're doing, and everyone else suffers.

Too many changes in Managers. Worked at VWR for 3 years and had 7 managers

Keep the managers in one place before switching them to different positions or letting them switch. Maybe make it a year mandatory before they can decide to switch to a different position.
