I have been working at Vans part-time

I worked at Vans part-time for less than a year
Pros – -friendly staff
-easy dress code (didn't need to spend much money, if any at all)
-decent starting pay ($9 as a part-time temp with no viable experience)
-great employee discounts
Cons – There is only one con I can come up with, and that is that you must enjoy wearing Vans products to some extent. You do not have to surf or skateboard to fit in, but if you are not comfortable wearing at least a pair of Vans shoes and a Vans t-shirt, you may not want to work in a store. If you do like wearing shoes and clothing from Vans, you should have no problems.

I worked at Vans as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Gained down-to-earth contacts, late nights were fun, small in-house gym and skate bowl, had influential voice in designs (apart of team), met and talked to president couple times, discounts at Vans retailers, and some other VF subsidiaries.
Cons – Based on time of when I was co-op-ing there, I was limited to designing colorways: I had slim experience with tech-packs, (seems problem has now been addressed with longer pre-grad internships)
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

I have been working at Vans part-time for more than a year
Pros – Great work environment, people are awesome!! Many times the pay isn't that great but we stay with the company because we have a connection to it. As a member of management there are always other opportunities available, however its hard to imagine leaving this company.
Cons – You WILL work harder than many other company retail employees do. So get over it and start working hard
Advice to Senior Management – Have corporate redesign the payroll methods. We lose many strong members of MGMT. because the company doesnt pay enough

I have been working at Vans
Pros – Great discount: - 50% off regular priced merchandise!!
Work / life balance is definitely good. Upper management makes this a priority for you.
Benefits are decent.
Definitely the place to be if you are personally invested in the lifestyle that Vans promotes (skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, bmx, warped tour, etc.)
Promotes TEAM more than anywhere else - yearly management meetings are pretty awesome.
Cons – The company is still very small, and that can make some of the daily processes more difficult than necessary. Vans thinks like a big company, acts like a big company, but they aren't a big company.
PAYROLL processes are a JOKE.
The company is VERY behind technologically. Terrible register systems, terrible inventory procedures, terrible reporting.
There is a very big disconnect between corporate and the field. Operations leave something to be desired.
Advice to Senior Management – First - get your processes in order. The company is growing and expanding extremely quickly, and in order to set your stores up for success you need to understand what it ACTUALLY takes for a retail store to operate. Give us better reporting, give us better register programs, and SERIOUSLY get the payroll system to be more standardized.

I have been working at Vans part-time for more than a year
Pros – Awesome discount, Good people(most of em), Promotion from within, awesome culture.
Cons – you do alot more work here than you will in most retail stores, but we do it for the company, and the pay isnt very good, but like i said for the company
Advice to Senior Management – Get better at scheduling and time management, and think about what vans is and who we cater too, we are supposed to represent youth culture, stay Off the Wall, n dont let those corporate vanity fair MF ers change who we are and what we stand for.. nuff said
