    Favorism for certain language speakers

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Palo Alto, CA

ProsThe company's motto is really good to cure cancer for patients.

ConsIf you are in Engineering, better you speak "Hindi". Otherwise, Look for something else.
Place to know the meaning of "unorganized/unethical". Such a big company, so messy. Many small companies in valley are way better.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at your project managers. Don't get mesmerized with fancy words such as Lean project managment. It means PMO get to do nothing than forwading emails and appointment scheduling for meetings. You can get that done by

A place I used to love to work.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe benefits of product I believe in.

ConsLack of support and investment to make real and lasting change.
Compensation that hasn't increased in five years even though performance reviews are positive.
    Growth opportuities are rare.

Advice to Senior ManagementIn my opinion we have a poor management structure, although I don't believe the same holds true for our corporate team. I would love to see more opportunities where employees can become engaged and appreciated.

All stick, no carrot, old equipment, under staffed, micromanagers

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

    ProsPay is ok for engineers

ConsForced shut downs, forced vacations to hit numbers. Senior managers will micromanage at all levels to work on pet projects and constantly pull people away from their main responsibilities.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat employee's as people not property. Invest in modernizing.

Constant paycheck discrepancies for Sales force

    Oncology Sales (Former Employee)

ProsExcellent Linac maker. The brand alone as a Sales employee will get you in the door easier than any other vendor.

ConsIncompatibility internal systems communication leads to inaccurate record keeping for both sales and service contracts. Constant paycheck discrepancies (always fighting to get paid what you are due) and comp plan changes at fiscal year end (almost every year) typically results in lower than anticipated annual salary. Annual sales quotas have recently become not achievable.

Advice to Senior ManagementWith the typical sales employee expected to bring in more than $40,000,000 each year, they can be paid a little better.

    Who's running the show?

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Palo Alto, CA

ProsExcellent employees, very knowledgable, sincere and friendly. Good salary, ok benefits, and good educational opportunities. If your a middle manager you can easily hide in the fold.

ConsDirect, middle, and some high management seem clueless, disorganized and arrogant. Old world middle management style disables the employees connection to the company. Forced vacations to cut costs.

Advice to Senior ManagementEveryone contributes the the companies success. Treat all employees like they count.

Micromanaging, risk adverse and vision-less physics geek place

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Palo Alto, CA

    ProsLarge and leading in its field; Good compensation and benefits; You can hide as much as you want; You will like it if you like slow moving geeks;

ConsNo vision; Geeks run the place; Management focus on next quarter's results -- look at their compensation packages, and you know why....; Very old-fashioned and slow-moving; Extremely conservative; Not very diverse; Career advancement opportunities very limited; Lots of politics between departments as people try to collect brownie points

Advice to Senior ManagementGet fresh blood into the place ! Wake up -- management practices from the 70's don't work anymore....

Cancer Treatment, Silo, Poor Management, Lack of Vision

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Palo Alto, CA

ProsBe part of a company that fights cancer.
There are some great engineering minds that produces cancer treatment machines.
Many good and dedicated people (unfortunately not recognized at all).

    ConsMany silos within department/group
    Poor management
Lack of vision in corporate depart, doesn't align with BU
    Unbalance work force
    Poor communication
Old company = stuck in old ways

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed some new blood in the company. Improve hiring and review process, need to open their eyes and identify good people vs incompetency. Stop being complacent.

It has become increasingly worse as management problems have overwhelmed the workplace environment.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Palo Alto, CA

ProsGreat people: very smart, capable and friendly. They are loathe to do layoffs, thought they did one in 2009 of about 5%

ConsTerrible management at highest level. Regulatory compliance is not a priority, Everything is driven by Engineering and the priority is to ship product - whatever it takes.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees, especially those at the individual contributor level. You have not created a healthy regulatory compliance environment. You do not mentor and promote people.

Lots of good people, but many are stuck in their ways and upper management doesn't have your best interest at heart.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Palo Alto, CA

ProsGood People, interesting projects, freedom to do what you need to do, relaxing workload

ConsFeels like upper management just wants you to be standard. Hard work is appreciated but not prized or valued.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere needs to be better communications across groups and departments. Its like the business side doesn't communicate with Engineering sometimes.
