I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Veeco is proactive about employee development. The markets they serve are high growth markets with fascinating consumer implications. Teams and departments work closely together to achieve company goals.

    Cons

Cyclical business makes the downturns tough to handle but company is continuously improving and actively looking to grow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication from the senior level executives to all employees is essential.

I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Veeco has strong, best-in-class technology in all areas of their five business units and a strong team culture. Because of their market leadership and strong balance sheet they are followed by more investment analysts than other companies their size, which speaks volumes about future growth. I'm a seasoned professional that likes collaboration and flat organizations - Veeco is the one for me.

    Cons

Veeco is spread out with sometimes too lean teams, requiring more coordination and outsourcing dependency

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

continue to provide resources to employees and finance new ideas to grow like you have done in the past

    Pros

Exciting technology. Dynamic market. High level professionals. World leader in AFM. Wide variety of other technologies: film deposition, epitaxy, optical and AFM metrology. Clear business and industry orientation.

    Cons

Not that many Cons. May be a bit too much politics where it should not be. Sometimes unclear distribution of duties and chain of comand.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I guess a bit more transparency in decision making and less politics will be beneficial for the company.

    Pros

Decent salary, vacation and benefits. Working with people creating amazing technology.

    Cons

Upper management seems overly concerned with the shareholders and market perceptions. A truly successful company would make them happier. Need the courage and finding to complete new projects in a timely manner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Finish what you start. You have great people willing for you who love what they do and would give you amazing products if allowed.

I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Competitive salary, matching 401K, flexibility, can work from home, free coffee.

    Cons

Selling products before they are designed. Major pressure and stress to complete the tasks to design/manufacture prior to shipping tools. Everything is a fire and urgent every single hour of everyday. Transition to market is too fast. Very limited resources and we wear many hats.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to communicate to your employees and actually listen to them and give feedback. When we got a new GM he did not even address our site! Too many upper management upstairs just running into eachother. Not engaging the workers at all.

I have been working at Veeco Instruments

    Pros

Great group of individuals to work with. Challenging work and always supported to learn new skills. Feel welcomed and great atmosphere for team driven work.

    Cons

Hard to find opportunities to advance in the company without PHD. Feels like lots of management for an equivalent number of workers at times.

    Pros

Technology that is changing the world, excellent leadership team that manages the business well, very smart, dedicated coworkers, market leadership in every product category, advancement opportunities, high-performance culture.

    Cons

This is the capital equipment business, where volatility is expected. You've got to roll with the changes in direction and strategy and be flexible. Contribute to solutions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication, transparency, and leadership by example. Keep up the great work.

Current Employee - Engineer in Plainview, NY

I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The only good thing is that you may learn something about the tools. It may help you to get a job on the customer side, hopefully.

    Cons

First of all, they don't have formal training even safety training. Too many layers in management, your manager screens information keeping you in the dark, therefore there is no way you get the bigger picture so that you don't have a way to innovate. Also on the other hand, all the credit is taken by your manager and when it is time to lay off people, you manager can get you out easily. This kind of culture kills all the creativity. That is also why they have a lot of projects, few of them are successful. They don't care about your career at all. When the stock market is screwed, it is time for you to move on. It is also a place racially divided. All the management do is acquiring. There is not much long-term new ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are human beings, not just a number, or numbers. Treat people as people please.
