I worked at Veeco Instruments full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good people in general. Most people work for technology related engineering without too much paper work.

    Cons

I agree with profound lack of vision and leadership at the engineering group.
Maybe CEO doesn't think it is important to get engineer's trust. because frequent laid off.

I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Competitive salary, matching 401K, flexibility, can work from home, free coffee.

    Cons

Selling products before they are designed. Major pressure and stress to complete the tasks to design/manufacture prior to shipping tools. Everything is a fire and urgent every single hour of everyday. Transition to market is too fast. Very limited resources and we wear many hats.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to communicate to your employees and actually listen to them and give feedback. When we got a new GM he did not even address our site! Too many upper management upstairs just running into eachother. Not engaging the workers at all.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits and great technology. Broadly skilled employees provide a friendly work environment. Profit sharing program is very generous.

    Cons

Little opportunity for advancement or career development. Leadership is cliquey. Organization Is top heavy and good ideas lay fallow due to lack of resources to execute.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus the organization outwardly. Too much time and energy is spent internally. You should remove at least 1 layer of middle management to improve communication

I have been working at Veeco Instruments full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The employer feel they can find and replace the employee easily from market, when the production ramping up, they will try to hire the employee aggressively, even provide good incentive to attract the people to join, like sign on bonus, and then just provide the basic product training to start the work; but they will lay them off without hesitate when the business slow down

    Cons

bad reputation in the market will make the company to get the people more difficult and difficult, and make talent employee in the company looking for stable opportunity

I have been working at Veeco Instruments

    Pros

Salary is average with the industry
    Benefits are above average
    Profit sharing is ok
Human Resources department tries to create a family type atmosphere

    Cons

Training is inconsistent and almost non-existent
A majority of the customers are ex-Veeco employees so for an FSE the working environment is very difficult because most of the customers have more system knowledge than the Veeco employees.
Many times the Veeco employee is set up to fail by not having the needed system training and interfacing with a majority of customers who are ex-Veeco employees with a lot of system knowledge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better training for your employees. Even though resources are limited, by not providing a strong base of knowledge for your people, you are essentially setting them up for failure.
