    I have been working at VeriFone full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    The pay is good.

    Cons

    This company will use you for everything you have and will then blame you for executive management failures. There is still plenty of house cleaning that is needed to improve this company, especially marketing. They occasionally fire or layoff co-workers to remind us all to stay in line.
    This company can take a good thing and destroy it. This includes people and acquired products. There is little future in terminals, but Verifone can't do anything to get out of the terminal space. They bought Sailpay and quickly destroyed it. Then they bought Globalbay and destroyed that too. The negative energy of this place is too heavy to recover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Remove everyone from your directors up who has been at the company more than a few years.

    Pros

    Good people at the lower levels - I would definitely work with them again. Established product in the marketplace. Ok benefits.

    Cons

    It's been a while, but it was more of a sweatshop than other companies known for having long hours. Definitely pressure use to exist to be on the gray side of rules & regulations. Perhaps it is better now under the new CFO.

    Pros

    Work to learn.
    I learned the secrets of linux in Verifone.
    The lower manager and the teammates were awesome.
    The greatest neighborhood in Rocklin CA.
    Learning the payment industry and contacting the international market vendors (walmart, verifone taxi, walgreen)

    Cons

    First, I wanted to comment to the "LIARS" who claim (bonus) here.
    NO bonus, no promotion I have heard of, we were mocking the word "bonus" locally.

    Very-Frugal-fone, payment is less than what I made as an intern!!

    The upper management are having no clue what they are planning for (just like a social government, whoever has the highest rank in the party, will make the decision, regardless to his efficiency).

    Customers are not satisfied at all.

    I changed 5 managers in two years (working in the same team) - yes every 5 months in average my manager changed!
    I got bad evaluation from a manager who didnt see me onsite (and because of not being onsite- they changed him).

    I got a strange and unexpected layoff.

    Many managers manage 2-3 engineers only, many directors supervise 2-3 managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Thanks, I learned the secrets of OS from Verifone OS team.
    More thanks for laying me off, within two months after, I found a much better job, much better payment, much better MIT / Harvard /CMU /NEU / BU PhDs.
    You gave me a good motivation to discover myself, to get a better career and better income.

    Fight hard for your position, no one will hire you, maybe in the best case enlisted lowest ranks in the army.
    Apply as enlisted in the army, I hope you can pass the decision making test.

    Changing the CEO doesn't work, the system is already corrupt.

    I worked at VeriFone as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

    Nothing to say about the company which is good.

    Cons

    Expectations are too high. They expect you to work till midnight and work in the weekends whether you are full time or contractor. Else, you will be fired within in hours.
    Typical desi culture but calling themselves as a client company. They expect you to sit in front of the laptop all the time and spy you all the time. They dont even have a proper infrastructure for IT employees.
    We were asked to seat in the back office where there is no AC, proper light.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Dont work in IT jobs. Go and do a labor job which is more suitable for you

    Pros

    The benefits were decent. You will get exposure to the payments industry, good place to experience and then move on. I will say the recent changes in executive management at the C level has been good,

    Cons

    Where to start, there are so many. You don't get elected as one of the top 10 worst places to work in silicon valley if you are treating your employees well.

    -Turn over rate is obscene over 200% now.
    -Severe understaffing across company and then they recently did a layoff. No job security.
    -Recent changes in the senior leadership team in MSO went from bad to much much worse.
    -The entire project management team recently left all in the same week, couldn't get out quick enough...
    -You will get booked on multiple projects for 100% utilization. I am booked on 3 projects for 100% of my effort, so i am literally booked out for 24 hours a day, and they expect you to work that much!
    -Office politics worse i've ever seen. You spend the bulk of your day just trying to make sure you are neutral enough to not get fired..
    -New leadership team loves to threaten to fire people.. Almost in every meeting.
    -Company culture is such you are expected to work 24 hours a day, otherwise you are not "passionate" that is the "Verifone way"
    -Unethical leadership in many areas.
    -Worst time off policy i've ever seen. They FORCE you to take 10 of your 15 days at July 4th week, and Christmas week, you have no choice they tell you when to take your vacation!!!
    -No respect for project managers.
    -No tools to properly do your job. Simple tools you would expect, ITIL suite, or even software to backup systems are always "going to happen next month"
    -Never worked for a company that cared as little about employees as this company, if I was "just a number" that would of been a step up!
    -All day you are put in no win situations, spend time doing due diligence and you get yelled at for not working fast enough, cut back on due diligence you get yelled at for not doing it. You never have the time to do what you need . You can't make people happy.
    -Multiple employee surveys have highlighted work life balance as an issue, promises to fix the issue go unanswered, instead they lay people off. HR might as well not even exist.
    -Salaries are below market rate, and attempts internally are to reduce it even farther, multiple recruiting vendors have refused to place candidates with Verifone anymore.
    -Used to be able to work from home, not anymore, no real reason given.
    -Severe micromanagement you will get ridden 24x7

    No amount of money is worth working at this place. About to leave, about the entire department is on their way out again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Fire all the management in MSO and start over with qualified people recent changes have made things significantly worse. This time when you bring in qualified people actually listen to them. Don't let the tenured verifone management get involved, they have proven time and time again to be incapable.

    Pros

    At the peer level, I worked with great people. New CEO and management seem to have the right ideas and bringing in strong talent to lead a turn around. Good name in the industry

    Cons

    Old leadership clueless and useless, and a lot of them are still there. Bureaucracy from corporate was very frustrating. The company is not big enough to feel as siloed as it did

    At GlobalBay, they had no idea how to integrate a software company. Management behaved very unethically with regards to pay. Specifically setting unattainable quotas which led to underpayment in sales, and I mean sales targets of 500% YoY growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Leadership, keep doing what you are doing with regards to strategy but inspect more what is going on at the ground level. I believe in the potential and would have liked to stay but my immediate leadership made that impossible

    Pros

    Few managers are good but not all. Get opportunity to work with top retailers. 401k match.

    Cons

    Everything is con. Low pay, no bonus, very little work sometimes. Too many acquisition lead to disorganized product development. Some IT teams are pathetically slow. Too many processes to complete simple tasks. Left departments high and dry for budget. Lot of good people left because of internal politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Very old principles. We've more managers than doers. Retain good employees and pay better.

    Pros

    One of the nicest teams I ever imagined to live in, all are Europeans and middlewest Americans or East Californians.
    Some positions require a lot of travel.

    Cons

    Everything else.
    We work hard, and receive bad evaluation whatever we do.

    Unite to press over the share holders together, to get some extra income, else there will be a lot of defects in the near future.

    Hum .... This is a hard question, since really are no Pros!

    Cons

    employees treated bad ! Management doesn't care about the employees. No opportunities at all. High employee turnover. company is a mess. Managers lie and tell you one thing today and something different the next day. Stock is down 42%! Managers sneek around and listen in on employees talking. Not honest place to work. Employees are not trusted and managers do not tell employees anything. Back stabbing place to work. 2 week shutdown, BUT you need to use YOUR VACATION time and if you do not have vacation, you DO NOT GET PAID! From the start employees not given much vacation time. HR must be writing reviews and saying how "great" company - how can the company be great is CEO and CFO gone ? Ask yourself these questions.
