I'd advise to steer clear of this place

Information Technology Professional (Current Employee) Mountain View, CA

ProsThe compensation and benefits are very good.

ConsThe company is going through a transitional phase after selling the Authentication business to Symantec. They have decided to move all remaining jobs to Dulles, Virginia, regardless of whether they can find qualified people to fill them. Management also plans to support the remaining company with a fraction of the support staff, so many remaining people will be wearing multiple hats and have very broad responsibilities. There is also an issue with people being promoted to positions they are not qualified for, simply because they are in the right location.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour actions this year have seriously damaged employee faith in upper management. If you are planning for the company to go forward, and not just getting positioned to sell the remaining parts, you have serious work to do gain any employee trust back.

Terrible, Amatuer management. esp. in finance

Executive (Former Employee) Mountain View, CA

ProsGood Pay and time off, and benefits - that's it.

ConsSlow to change, no direction, and no team meetings from manager. You are on your own in this company... Unprofessional overall but they do pay well.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to business school!

Avoid unless you absolutely need a job

User Experience (Current Employee) Mountain View, CA

ProsThe company is not going away anytime soon so you have a job for a while.
    Excellent location.
Good benefits at a low cost to employees.
Engineers who do the actual coding are good to work with.

ConsMicro management and no ability for a person to make a decision on their own. Resulting in a slow project time and bottle neck from management.
Too many layers making it more people to keep in the loop which again dis-empowers you from making a decision as well as slowing things down.
Not a collaborative culture. Favors throwing things over the wall to each other. Product lifecycles reflect this as well.
    Technology is old.
Managers routinely check up on employees to make sure they are working their hours and tracking of time is done in a digital timesheet.
Engineering management ties their own teams hands to do the right thing for the customer.
Lack of processes and the ones that are in place just done make sense.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake more dramatic changes and the mid management level. They are killing what you are trying to build.
Rethink how you develop and bring a product to market.

    Avoid, reducing divisions and headcount

Network Engineer (Former Employee) Dulles, VA

    ProsName recognition is very strong

ConsClueless Management. Verisign is moving away from customer support towards a Web 2.0 based solutions. This encourages minimal staff, sales, and support.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour web based migration for sales and support should work, and will reduce costs significantly.

DON"T JOIN THIS REALLY BAD COMPANY - THE MGT> is very amateur.

N/aa (Current Employee) Mountain View, CA

ProsTHe pay is excellent and benefits other than that I don't see it as a place that supports employee growth and development

ConsLack of vision and leadership in certain depts. Amateur style of management. No support of growth. Poor communication flow of ideas and information across a small company. People hide information. Like is their own company:) Some managers are dead weights - no vision - and they make things more complex sometimes than they are.. Don't join this company!

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a look at personal relationships and how each dept. individually is meeting its goals..

Verisign Santa Cruz - a nasty sinking ship

Software Engineer (Former Employee) Mountain View, CA

    Prospaycheck, 401(k), compensation benefits, etc.

ConsNon-responsive and clueless management, excessive visa abuse, limited career opportunities, disrespectful communication amongst and between co-workers and management, depressing employee morale, inadequate recognition for jobs well done - unless you are a member of a power clique. In summary, a totally dismal place to work.

Advice to Senior ManagementLive up to the expectations laid out in the RAPID values statement issued to all employees and posted throughout the workplace. If you are going to talk the talk then actually follow through with it. Anything else is a mockery and an insult. Many co-workers with extensive industry experience feel this is the worst place they have ever worked.

    Practice what you preach

Director Operations (Current Employee) Mountain View, CA

ProsI truly can not think of a good reason.

    ConsLacks integrity, respect, and accountability

Advice to Senior ManagementPractice what you preach - VeriSign Company Values (RAPID):

    * Respect - Employees are not treated with respect by management per policy
    * Accountability - Unjust treatment by management are not disciplined or held accountable for their actions
    * Passion - Employees who bring passion to their jobs are not well received
    * Integrity - Not ethical or consistent in actions when provided
    * Drive - Plays to win at the employee expense

Great company but horrid managers in IDC

Lead Engineer (Current Employee) Bangalore (India)

    ProsGood Policies
    Work Life Balance
Best RSUs & ESPP program I have seen till date
Competitive Salary if you negotiate well during joining

ConsHorrid managers at India Development Center with no work. Reston teams are not like that. They are very professional and appreciative if you work well.
Show work even when there is no work which is quite frustrating.
Make interns slog like anything; make them work on all Weekends, without fail, with no extra compensation for that. Top of that, interns have to address manager as Sir.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease pay some attention to your employees which also includes interns, software engineers and leads and not just managers.

I experienced a constantly ever-changing environment with many obstacles and challenges.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsWhen you meet positive co-workers that are truly nice people.

ConsNegative reinforcement given to employees rather than positive. A fear-based management style in some groups. Not allowing vacation when needed. Walking on eggshells with some managers. Unhealthy work environment that could be abusive.

Advice to Senior ManagementA positive working environment where management shows that they care about their employees in the short term and long term is much more productive than any monetary award.
