I have been working at Verisign (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Work life balance. Great facilities (company sponsored cafeteria, onsite free gym/classes, flu shots, free breakfast, good coffee, underground parking). Mac based company.

    Cons

Leadership. Upper management comes up with a direction and we all match towards. Very little strategy to whether that idea is something consumers want, very little discovery to whether the market will adopt an 'engineering' focused strategy. Surprised when Sales can't sell it. Legal teams can't support it. Finance teams can't price it. Upper management surprised when it has to be revised, surprised when customers can't understand it ... hey, but it was a cool engineering idea. When you put engineers in charge, you'll get engineered ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think outside of the box. Put more focus on products than on cafeteria rebuilds. Make products that are efficient and solve our consumers needs. Don't allow engineers to drive this company.

    Pros

Good salary, and when you are productive and committed to your job, you will find that you are reasonably recognized for this, provided that you do not end up with an incompetent and insecure manager. The other good news is that those managers typically do not last too long. Great customers.

    Cons

Management appointed without experience or qualifications. Male sexist attitudes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When the management and the VP set the tone by being sexist, giving advice will not necessarily help. Management can also tell the staff not to communicate some things to the ELT so there is a lack of transparency which should be fixed.

    Pros

Great Work environment, high regarded company and benefits

    Cons

Consist changes to ROE for sales team. Consist changes to territory structure. High turn over for management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

End the favoritism, and get some structure to your ROE.

I have been working at Verisign full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The base salary is competitive. They lead in what they do-the office is nice-new facility, gym, Starbucks, etc. The comp plan is good too.

    Cons

    Highly political
    Lots of favoritism
    Different rules for different people

    Pros

What we do is actually important and makes a difference in the world, it's not just some blog site or social junk.

    Cons

Company is no longer a technology company, it is a finance company trying to keep the tech alive at the lowest possible cost. I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to get bought out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The cost cutting is eventually going to come back to bite you. This is not something you should be playing catch up with.

I worked at Verisign full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people who do the work are mostly smart folks and the work day is mostly 8 hours or just over. There is little stress and deadlines are fungible if there are good reasons.

    Cons

The organization is extremely vertical and management is very political. This leads to lots of turf wars and an inability to quickly get to a solution. This is kind of a double-edged sword: there is no accountability. When you make a mistake, that is kind of nice. When a coworker or manager is clearly not doing anything useful, though, it is the opposite. Finally, the growth opportunities for the business are questionable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company needs more vision and fewer managers.

I worked at Verisign full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Work with a proud team of industry leading experts. The passion of being the best is clearly evident in many teams day to day operations from marketing to engineering. Benefits are good but changes are underway so carefully assess market benchmarks before making any decision. The core business is strong and resilient.

    Cons

Strategic growth needs clarity from management to align roles and responsibilities for all team members.

I have been working at Verisign full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great benefits including health club, employee stock program, bonus, stock grants. Good work life balance.

    Cons

Risk averse culture. Culture is not very collaborative. Things move a bit slowly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top management needs to get more aggressive to find new areas for growth and get on the same page. Hold people accountable for deliverable and schedules. Get rid of people in leadership positions that are not team players across organizations. They set a bad example.
