I worked at Verisign full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Stability.
    Good work life balance.
Good pay in the area for a software product company.

    Cons

Very little growth opportunities. Mostly lateral movements.
People just go around in circles within the different groups in the company since there are not much opportunities within the company. Also not much product company based opportunities within the Reston, VA area, hence people don't leave Verisign but feel "stuck" in their careers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More aggressive investment needed to fuel growth. Company needs to take more risks. The legal team seems to run the company. Once it goes into the legal "black hole", nothing comes out of it and just delays everything and dampens the enthusiasm to try new things.

I have been working at Verisign full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Solid benefits and compensation. A nice facility in Reston, VA. There is a genuine sense of community at Verisign. Most folks are risk averse and focused on steady progress toward goals. Business model is stable, if a little stagnant. Jobs are reliable. Office culture is supportive. Work-life balance is important to my supervisor, and most folks go to a training or conference once a year.

    Cons

Not much opportunity for promotion. Verisign is a large company, and there are more than a few mandatory training classes meant only to indemnify the company for insurance purposes.

I worked at Verisign as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The location and perks were fantastic- right in Reston Town Center, very nice office building, tons of free food (for interns that's huge) and a nice gym. I was lucky and got along great with my team, but some of the other interns, not so much. Overall, most came back and worked full-time I think. Pay was very much well above average.

    Cons

Often times I was extremely bored and my manager/team had nothing to do for me. Don't get me wrong, getting paid to online shop is great but in the end I didn't really advance much in my field.

I worked at Verisign full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

VeriSign is a fun and interesting place to work. As a development engineer, I had a good degree of autonomy. The compensation is good, including bonuses and a very good ESPP.

    Cons

After splitting off the certificate and PKI business, our mission has become rather narrow. Also, we now are a D.C. - only company without the Silicon Valley connection we had.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reliance on the domain registry business is risky. Diversification is key at this point.
