    I worked at Verizon Wireless

    Pros

Great benefits. Good medical coverage that starts day one. Great education benefits give you 8000 a year towards school

    Cons

I felt like a slave and was watch all the time. I would like to be able to use the bathroom and not have to notify people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More work life balance. No need to watch employees like hawks

    Pros

The best part of working for vzw were the lifelong friends I have met.

    Cons

Now they are only interested in the bottom line. Benefits have gotten worse every year and they are now cutting people that make too much money. Layoffs are everywhere.

My thoughts of Verizon after eighteen years as an Employee.

    Pros

Pay and bonuses were very good. Time off structure was excelent and much needed.

    Cons

Severely micro managed. Encouraged to mislead Customers in order to increase sales revenue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow the represetatives to actually assist the customers without the need to trick into services and product not needed. This only created angry customers in the long term.

    Pros

learn complex database technologies and skills

    Cons

many after-midnight hours, some managers and co-workers are hostile and do not foster a good environment; HR allows it/looks the other way. all you need to know is realize how often IT jobs are available - shows all the turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

too many enterprise releases; IT people burn out

    I worked at Verizon Wireless

    Pros

Sometimes you can find fun coworkers if management actually allows you to communicate with them other than your scheduled 15 minute breaks, scheduled lunches, or walking in/out the call center

    Cons

Low pay, high expectations, supervisors that are not worth respecting

    I worked at Verizon Wireless

    Pros

Its nearly impossible to get penalized no matter how much you slack off or mess up.

Probably one of the best companies for people who want to take it easy and get paid for doing nothing at all.

    Cons

Directors and EDs always trying to come up with pathetic business cases and do "strategy" work when clearly strategy is dead at wireless. Leave strategy to verizon corporate or better yet external consultants. And please stop saying you are better than BCG consultants....seriously wth.

No diversity. Most people I met in management have never left the United States in their life.

Definitely not a place for high performers because everyone is treated the same regardless of performance. After one year most people figure this out.

Very rare to meet someone from a top school for obvious reasons.

    Way too many to list...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out a way to hire better talent and make sure high performers are rewarded.

There are way too many directors doing meaningless work with their teams.

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great pay, awesome benefits, room to advance, training program use to be excellent but they teach u the min. so you don't waste their money not interacting with customers.

    Cons

Very high stress levels, get treated like a number, reviews are very subjective, get different answers from different supervisors, many leaders do not have proper leadership skills, more like slave drivers. Always watching over you, waiting for you to make a a mistake. Many of the leaders couldn't do the work that half of the reps on the floor were doing. If you want to have a prescription to anxiety medication and age quick, this is definitely the job for u. Great pay and structure but many changes in upper management have taken place and took away many employee benefits and incentives. They do not care about their employees anymore or there customers. The most important piece to vzw is their bottomline. They will do anything and I mean anything if it makes their profits increase. They talk about ethics and doing the right thing until it affects their pocketbook then ethics goes out the door and they do whatever is necessary to meet their revenue goals. Closing direct centers and opening vendors tells you where this company is going... Just wait and see.
They shut down our call center to open a vendor building to pay them much less and put many people out of a job or force them to move out of state.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company has gone completely backwards. I use to love my job. I felt I had empowerment to actually do what I was paid for, to help people. But instead, we became slaves to corporate America for the greedy upper management to continue to get massive bonuses of $14million and did so by forcing hard working, ethical employees out of a job. I hope you can sleep at night. I have no advice for you, ur will fail on your own and I'm just glad I am not a part of it anymore.

    Pros

health care from day 1. time off. phone bill discount. 401k plan. benefits plan.

    Cons

This job put me into therapy and onto 7 different antidepressants and antianxiety drugs. Management bullies you, and harrasses you constantly. You are verbally abused from customers and management will not do anything for you. They will text you at home about work, and they will text you up to 20 times a day. They do not let you have any personal item on your desk--no photos or anything, because they say it is too distracting. I felt less than human when i worked there. i got physically sick before i walked into that building, that's how much anxiety i got before i would get on with my day, which consisted of getting screamed at for things that werent my fault, and couldn't fix, and then getting yelled at by my manager for not selling that angry customer an overpriced phone case or bluetooth headset.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

treat your reps like humans, and not robots.
