defends the employee not the situation

Retail Store Manager (Current Employee)
Lutherville Timonium, MD

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than 5 years

Prospay is great with a great set up, unfortunately there are so many politics that its hard to get what you have earned unless you know someone

Conspolitics, advancement opportunities, for a company that boasts the opportunities you are only awarded those opportunities if you know someone, I have been a top 5 manager in my region for 2+ years and i have yet to be noticed or earned a position that many of my coworkers think i have earned. the position has always been awarded to people outside my channel and does not boast a promote from within. many of the people that were promoted over me fail at their job and are replaced within a year. also the employee is always defended by the company and you will never get a fair investigation in anything.

Advice to Senior Managementpay attention to your employees and support them rather than always applying pressure

Working here is kind of like a concentration camp

TELESALES Representative (Current Employee)
Folsom, CA

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than a year

ProsI can't think of one good thing

ConsDon't even submit a resume. They will lie to you.. They are also downsizing. There is no customer service dept. sales is customer service. Quota is impossible

Advice to Senior ManagementStop belittling your piers.

Nepotism or, Sales under the Guise of Customer Service

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)
Greenville, SC

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than a year

ProsDecent pay, time off, other benefits, considering the region.

ConsManagement is very clique-ish, moving up is difficult, business model based on tying all or as many customers as possible into multiple wireless device contracts despite their need. Customer service and Tech Support equal sales.

HORRIBLE place

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)
Rochester, NY

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than 5 years

Prospay is ok but not worth the stress

Consthere isnt enough space to note all of the cons/ I worked in the Rochester call center for over 6 years-was terminated for a petty reason during their "housecleaning". They will probably start hiring new people at a lower pay
IF I COULD RATE THE COMPANY LESS THAN 1 STAR I WOULD HAVE

Advice to Senior Managementstart treating employees with respect.... MOST of f the management COULDNT take calls for 1 hour and do it correctly. They are real good at criticizing calls during coachings though.... There are always alot of people out on STD due to stress . NO job is worth that bs

I hated every minute of this place.

TELESALES Representative (Current Employee)
Folsom, CA

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe money was good at first.

ConsManagement treated you like dirt. They cut commission every year which equated to a pay cut. They would expect you to basically mislead customers to agree to things they didn't need or want.

Advice to Senior ManagementManage with integrity, motivate people to give you their very best instead of motivating with discipline. Actively listen to your employees just like you teach us to actively listen to our customers.

Very hostile environment

Retail Sales Representative (Former Employee)

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat benefits for self and dependents, low cost of health insurance. Continous change keeps you going, training available for new products and services.

ConsZero work/life balance unless you are senior management, ideas are usually frowned upon by senior management even though they strongly want employees to come up with ideas.

Advice to Senior ManagementAll employees are equal, don't discriminate against one for being different, all policies should apply to everyone, don't have favoritism and let things slide with those employees and enforce the same rules with others.

Stressful environment, and your treated as a employee number. NOT A PERSON

Retail Sales Representative (Former Employee)

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than 10 years

ProsBENEFITS and vacation time, THAT'S IT.

ConsLong hour's, dealing with the public and rude customers. The customer is always right !! ( YA RIGHT ) . Any major complaints to corp. from a customer the company is always quick to side with the customer, even if you where right. Guess that goes back to the customer is always right. ( lol lol ya, right ). Company always looking for ways to mess with the K.P.I's and commission structure to pay you less, but will always paint a picture you will make more. ( lol lol ya, right ) . No matter how good you did in sales the previous month, your are always treated as good as your last sale. Verizon wireless make a ton of profit off the sweat of your labor. And employees receive no bonus at the end of the year. But you do get this long speech at the end of the year on how well the company did in profit. Oh, and the top C.E.O.'s still get there ( SEVEN COMA ) bonus. lol lol . Company make you feel like a sales employee number, not an employee. I know, i worked for verizon 13 years. Would never recommend this company to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management has no clue most of the time what goes on in the store. Management only cares about numbers, even if your an average sales employee and still making money for the company. Let management work in retail for six months and go on commission and deal with irate customers and see how easy it ( lol lol ) to make quota.

This Company of People was Fantastic, But the Corporation it Grew into a Greed Monster

Retail Sales Representative (Former Employee)
Portland, OR

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGreat place to learn fantastic sales skills. Good place to understand the "corporate entity" and learning to work for the "man". Pay is good, and if you are good at understanding compensation structures, you can make 60-80k/yr Fun toys, and generally intelligent employees.

ConsWhere to start. Compensation of employees is completely inverse to performance metrics. you are now forced to sell customers on features and programs that cost them hundreds of more dollars just to get paid your commission. If you don't you are not paid and your metrics suffer, if your metrics are bad (even if you are very profitable to the company) you get fired. Sales are micromanaged and constantly coached. Expectations on accessory sales per phone require you to be pushy and aggressive. Your schedule is inhumane and intolerable. It felt like a rat race, I can say I was one of the best. Multiple Presidents Cabinet awards, exotic trips, and yet somehow, it still was not good enough for this corporation. My anxiety was always high.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe pressure from your metrics is causing your front line to crumble. By the time I left, no one had any team pride or brand identity. If its money you want, build a structure that truly motivates your customers to WANT to buy more because the VALUE is obvious. Instead, we resorted to confusing our customers into paying more with edge, nickle and diming them with revenue generating features they don't need. If you really want your customers to pay more, stop the gimmicks, stop the manipulation and create ACTUAL VALUE that the client can see and understand without a salesperson finding the "right solution" with confusing price plans.

Please fix the compensation system. It is so horribly confusing that myself and one other person in my state understood how we actually were paid. It made sense back in 2007- mid year 2011, but after account level pricing, the number of moving parts, and exceptions to rules on the commission system makes it cryptic. Employees don't know how they get paid. Therefore, they are not motivated by the commission system making it worthless to the majority of your retail employees.

Cutback and layoffs and greed, oh my!

Tech Support Coordinator I (Former Employee)

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than 8 years

ProsWonderful coworkers; decent compensation. Opportunities for relocation if you don't like where you live. Free coffee and tea.

ConsYou are nothing but a number, and rest assured that you will constantly be reminded of that by customers and management. The benefits are, meh. The CEO decided that he no longer wanted to pay Vodafone, the international corporation that helped make Verizon and Verizon Wireless what it is today, so many people were let go, departments eliminated and corporate locations closed to buy out the contract. They are trying to get rid of the name Verizon Wireless since the companies have completely merged. The restructuring has caused pay decreases, increased workloads, and a lot of panic as things aren't generally communicated to front line employees. We have had to learn most of these things as they have happened and/or from the media.
