    Pros

learn complex database technologies and skills

    Cons

many after-midnight hours, some managers and co-workers are hostile and do not foster a good environment; HR allows it/looks the other way. all you need to know is realize how often IT jobs are available - shows all the turnover.

    Advice to Management

too many enterprise releases; IT people burn out

    Pros

There are not many pros for a contractor.

    Cons

    - Contractors are not treated like human beings.
    - Work environment is discouraging, unprofessional and cold.
    - If you are smart and stand up for yourself, you will be harassed, judged and made to feel unwelcome.
    - They don't like new ideas, methods or approaches that you bring to the table.
    - Managers will not find a solution, but who to blame.

    Advice to Management

    - Ask your managers to be professional and act like true leaders and not masters.
    - Tell them to be a little approachable and dependable.
    - Tell them new ideas bring benefits and add value to a company.
    - Encouragement to new hires will surely decrease your company's attrition rate.

    Cons

Work environment is filled with rude and mean employees and managers. Whole IT work culture is stressful. Especially Database Administration Group. Don't share knowledge. Make you work like slave. Give no respect to contractors.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

The commute was good and the paychecks were issued promptly. Other than that, there were no factors I would consider "pros".

    Cons

Treating contractors (we are not even considered consultants) like dirt is hard wired into VZW's DNA. I've never seen such a corporate culture this dysfunctional. Productive staff were overloaded with more and more work while slackers were allowed to coast. Of course renewal decisions had no bearing on productivity. Managers rose to their positions by virtue of tenure and not merit. There is a very lean management structure which might work in an organization with competent staffers but not one staffed by hacks. Long term managers are known to berate and bully the rank and file with impunity. Even long term well connected contractors throw their weight around. They are attuned to the poor job market and are acting accordingly because they can.

    Advice to Management

Fire all the ATT and OTC legacy middle managers and reboot the culture, purging it of ll the anal retentive territorial nonsense. Institute a robust PMO.

    Pros

Very high exposure to cutting edge projects, benefits are good. One of the few companies to give bonuses during the recession. Also receive profit sharing and long term incentives which is a nice second bonus if you're lucky to have gotten one. People are great to work with.

    Cons

If you work for a manager that was either laid off or transffered from Verizon landline BE CAUTIOUS. Landline managers a bunch of idiot micro managers. Landline managers should stay out of wireless because the cultures clash and they just do not belong. Landline managers don't know squat about wireless technologies. Its so sad to see landline managers trying to act like they know what they are doing but everyone sees through the fakeness.

    Advice to Management

IF you're from telco, do yourself a favor and learn about the wireless technologies. Stop micro managing your people to the point where you don't like the font being used in a specific presentation. Learn the wireless culture or else your employees will start to hate you.
