    Pros

Even though the company is long past being a start-up, some of the start-up mentality is still there. Namely, a self-starter can do well at Vertical and you can guide your direction in the company. If there's something that you want to do, no one will tell you no. No one works crazy hours any more, though no one slacks off. The current CEO (Peter Bailey) is trustworthy and confident. Overall, it's a comfortable place to work.

    Cons

If you need someone to micro-manage you, this is not the company for you. If you want to work on the latest cutting-edge technology instead of delivering a stable product that hundreds of thousands of people use every day, then you should be looking at a start-up. If you don't want to deal with "old code" and worry about breaking previous features, then you want to work on an unreleased product., not one that's been shipping for 15 or so years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company has weathered the recession storm without too much pain, which is a comfortable place to be before the rebound. Employee communication in that area has been great.
