    Great Place to Work

    Intern (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsAs far as internships go, VAMortgageCenter.com offers a very rewarding experience. The internship gives real-life experience working in the mortgage industry, especially with loan origination. Interns are given every opportunity to experience new roles in the company and the company is always actively seeking to hire qualified and driven interns for full time employment. The review process for interns helps you to develop yourself professionally and you are consistently given advice on your strengths and areas in which you need to improve. There is high importance placed on training and the company always puts interns in positions to succeed in all of their tasks. Also, throughout the course of the internship, you will be challenged and asked to do many different tasks, which helps to keep the internship from becoming monotonous. Oh, probably also worth noting that this is a paid internship, which makes it even better because it is definitely an internship that would be worth doing even if it was not paid.

As far as the company goes, you could not ask for a better place to work. They offer free lunch for all employees every Monday, an annual all expenses paid company golf outing, an unbelievable annual Holiday party, an annual company bowling outing, free massages on Thursdays and Fridays, a very relaxed dress code, and some of the most fun people you will ever work with. I would most definitely encourage anyone who is interested in the industry and has an offer to work at this company, because as far as places to work go, this company is second-to-none.

ConsOne of the only cons that comes to mind would be the location. While Columbia is a great place to live and raise a family, it is a bit smaller than many people would prefer, but you do have a great college atmosphere with plenty of sports to watch. Also, you have easy access to two larger cities, with Kansas City and St. Louis each within a 2 hour drive. Also, the parking situation can be a bit tough because the company is growing so quickly and the office building is running out of both parking and office space for all of the employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs far as my experience goes, I have not had any negative experiences and as far as I have experienced, the management has always been proactive in solving any problems or issues that any employeees have had. The company is a great place to work and is heading in a good direction. Keep up the good work!

    Best Employer I've Ever Had

Account Manager (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsThe people are fantastic and bright, there is a ton of potential looking forward, we are able to give back to the men and women who have served our country, free Monday catered lunches, free snacks, monthly 'fun days', amazing parties/outings...I could go on for days!

ConsThere isn't much of anything that comes as a downside to working at VAMortgageCenter.com. The toughest part is hitting the deadlines and prioritizing the large number of borrowers we have, but those are tough things to deal with at any mortgage company.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou guys definitely know what you're doing. I like how change is embraced and how the main focus is looking at the future.

    Community Matters

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsVAMC is a great place to work. Management is supportive, balancing work and home life is extremely important. We are very involved in our community and as a whole, the company is more concerned than most companies I've worked for about making a difference in our community. Doing what we do and giving back to those who support our country is awesome!

ConsIt can sometimes be pretty stressful, but in the end, what we're doing makes such a difference for our borrowers and our community.

Advice to Senior ManagementVAMC is growing at a tremendous pace. We have a great niche and are moving in a good direction. Keep it up!

    My home away from home

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsThe core values of our company mean a lot to me as they reflect a few of my personal values. I truly enjoy coming into work everyday and I think that says a lot about a company. I know many people that dread going to work on a daily basis and I am so glad that I never have that feeling in the mornings.

There are so many benefits to working for VA Mortgage Center.com that there is no way I could list them all here. However, the biggest benefit is being able to help our Veterans who have done so much for us. Of course the Monday lunches, Friday massages and the very casual dress code are some great benefits!!

My headline states this is "my home away from home" as it truly feels like a family here. Even though we have grown tremendously over the past few years I have been here, it still feels like a really big family.

I could not imagine working anywhere else. I have definitely found my career here and look forward to climbing upward in the company. :)

ConsParking tends to be a big issue as the company continues to grow. It's not that parking far away bothers me, but there is limited parking due to all of the surrounding businesses. There are times there is truly no place to park.

I miss not having profit sharing or end of year bonuses. I'm very surprised by this since it is growing so fast. It seems the company spends a LOT of money on parties but doesn't offer a year end bonus or gain sharing of any type.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the great work! It would be really nice if we had a building big enough for all of us. I sometimes feel since all the managers have offices, they forget about the people sitting in hallways, breakrooms, old closets, etc. Besides that - everything you do is amazing!

    Best place to be employed

Funding Coordinator (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsYou are made to feel very at home here. Everyone you work with treats you like they are your friend or family. That goes for management as well. I have never worked at a place where the upper management are open, available and so willing to be a part of the everyday activities of the emplyees. There are always people that are willing to assist you whether it be by answering questions or helping an overwhelmed co worker . We also dress casually which allows you to feel comfortable day in and day out. The company caters in lunch every Monday for all of the offices. We have great work events to bring all of the employees together to mingle whether its the annual golf tournament, bowling event, or Christmas party you get the oppurtunity to meet and talk with people you may normally never see. Probably the very best thing is the companies commitment to the community. I am from here and to see a company so willing to contribute to the people in the area is a beautiful thing.

ConsThere is not really anything I can complain about at VAMortgageCenter.com. I worked here for 2 years then left for 2 and have now been back for 3 years. During that 5 years of service I have been treated with respect even when I chose to leave after my first stint.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to the management is keep up the good work. You do a great job of finding new ways each year to show your employees they are appreciated and vital to the companies success.

    Finally Found A Career Home!!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsVAMortgageCenter.Com has a long list of pros. Everything including free massage Friday, casual dress every day, free soda and vending machine, and awesome parties and celebrations. The best part about everything though is everyone really exemplifies the values of this company and they are not just posted on the wall for everyone to see and never talked about. I have found that everyone from interns to the owners really believe and practice the company values!

ConsIt is a fast growing company so people are constantly getting moved and shuffled around.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey are doing a great job not only impacting employees but also the community!

Best Place I could Think of to find a Job

Account Manager (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsThere are so many extra Benefits for working within VAMortgageCenter.com. -

Monday Lunches, Thursday and Friday Massages, Flexible work hours, Company events, and even great Company meetings. Everyone is treated as an equal here, and everyones thoughts and ideas are encouraged.
We also give back to the community as well, if not better, than other large companies in the area. People here are passionate about their job, and passionate towards eachother and our clients. We live our values every day, and strive to be better as a company.

ConsSometimes parking can be difficult for some of the employees, but that comes with rapid growth. People are also constantly moving, but that is only for their own comfort and well being, along with a better work environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt seems to me that you know exactly how a company should be handled, so keep up the great work. As long as the Culture stays in tact, I feel that there will be constant and steady growth.

VA Mortgage Center.com: A Great Place to Work!

    Intern (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsThe company culture sets VA Mortgage Center.com apart from any other. The employees and management are either young, or young at heart. This feeds the company's competitiveness while giving employees a sense of balance between work and play. You can see in the hard work everyone puts forth that they are proud to do what they do.

ConsBeing successful, the company is constantly growing. As a result, desk moves are common. Also, sometimes the soda machine runs out of Gatorade.

Advice to Senior ManagementAlthough, the training process is already top-notch, I think a better understanding of how the company operates could be given to employees at orientation.

    Lightning in a bottle

Account Manager (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsThe people here are amazing! Everyone is exceptionally helpful and friendly. Each of my coworkers puts their best forward everyday, and works hard to meet our goals and deadlines. Management often takes the time to recognize our achievments with shout outs, food and fun. The business is well organized and connected; everyone in the company can get ahold of each other, even other branches. Everyone is treated fairly and with respect, even when schedules get hectic and stress grows. Every employee is well taken care of with health care, life insurance and other standard perks, plus unusual bonuses like free catered lunch every Monday and massages on Fridays. The level of involvement with the community is outstanding. People here go further than just writing a check (for example many coworkers are involved in Big Brothers/Big Sisters) and the various charity events are posted so everyone can participate. This is a company that you can feel wonderful working for. Everyone here knows that this place is about more than the bottom dollar. People are happy about coming to work and that contagious positivity is the catalyst and motivating factor for the amazing results we deliver.

ConsWhile Columbia is a cheap place to live, it is only a midsized town in Mid Missouri.
As far as I can tell, opportunities for promotion do not come around very often.
Some of the training materials are outdated.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe key to the success we have is all in the people. Don't ever forget that

Best place I can imagine working for

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

Pros1. Great work environment. Vamc is such a fun place to work. The office atmosphere is a blast. People in the office are friends, not just co-workers. It definitely is not a stiff work environment. Casual dress makes it laid back, we are encouraged to be comfortable as long as we are getting the job done.
    2. Opportunities for advancement. I just got a full-time job here, and there are already avenues to advance in the company.
    3. Awesome benefits. Health-care, gym memberships, parties for employees, bonuses - the benefits are fantastic.
    4. Passionate employees. Everyone is passionate about their jobs and it makes it a fun place to work.
    5. Giving back to the community. We sponsor a host of charity events and it feels great to give back.

Cons1. The company is in Columbia. I didn't really see myself staying in Columbia after college, but it really isn't that big of a deal.
    2. I can't think of anything else I would change.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the great work. Try to keep the company fun as it matures. Right now everything is great, I couldn't ask for a better employer. Thank you, VAMC!
