Current Employee – been working at Veterans United Home Loans full-time for less than a year
Pros – Catered lunches on Mondays, always casual dress, flexible hours, free vending machine, free refrigerator (full of fresh fruit, veggies, cheeses, and drinks), free soda fountain, free massage every other week, very youthful workplace, so many great company activities and outings, very philanthropic company, overall really fun place to work. I'd say only Google has us beat as far as taking care of employees (but we're continually improving).
Cons – Parking is a nightmare, some of the positions seem really underpaid compared to other departments, and sometimes you can get pulled to another team to help them out with busy projects.
Advice to Senior Management – Spend some time doing all the jobs in your department. Sometimes it can be hard to quantify productivity just because there are all kinds of unpredictable situations that arise from what may seem like an easy task. Policies and procedures need to be flexible because they usually only work in theory.

Current Employee – been working at Veterans United Home Loans full-time for more than a year
Pros – There is something to be said for coming in to work in a t-shirt and shorts, grabbing a free juice and free pop tarts, sitting down at your desk, and being trusted to get your work done. People may sit behind cubicle walls, but they might as well not be there. Just a wonderful happy feel-good place to work.
Cons – If you're in development/IT the department is somewhat marginalized and isn't really respected the way it should be. Though it is a Mortgage Company and not a Silicon Valley startup, the IT/Development staff is often forgotten about or mentioned as an after thought.
Advice to Senior Management – Respect and acknowledge that the development and IT staff keep the business afloat just as much as the loan officers do. Happy developers means a better product.

Current Employee – been working at Veterans United Home Loans full-time for more than a year
Pros – Everyone that works here is very passionate about what they do, who we help and how we can become better personally and as professionals.
It's more than the simple perks (Monday lunch, massages, laid back environment), but the ability to work in an environment that fosters open communication, honesty and integrity.
And at the end of the day, the executive team measure success beyond profits, but in how we impact our clients and community.
Cons – The primary con is the number of offices spread throughout the city HQ in Columbia. I believe we're up to eight now, which is not a terrible thing, but can become difficult at times.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to focus on our clients through our partnerships fostered by the Veterans United Foundation. It's great to make a positive impact in the lives of these men and women.

Current Employee – been working at Veterans United Home Loans as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Not your typical internship. You actually work hands on with the online marketing of this innovative company. Perfect for the creative type that tend to work best when given tasks with little guidelines or instructions. Overall a very beneficial experience. This is the type of company you would be lucky to land a job at if you are interested in online marketing.
Cons – The length of the internship feels too short. Just as you are beginning to really get a grasp of your assigned marketing teams' role, you realize you only have a couple weeks left.

Current Employee – been working at Veterans United Home Loans full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Pretty much everything. Great work environment, great coworkers. This is a great place to work if you want to give back to the community as well with the Veterans United Foundation raising over $1 million each year to give back to military causes.
Cons – Not many cons at all. I really can't even think of one worth putting on here.
Advice to Senior Management – Communicate more about the long term. I wish I had more access to projections and plans for the future. I love the emails we get from the CEO, owners, and other exec board members but we should up the frequency.

Current Employee – been working at Veterans United Home Loans full-time for less than a year
Pros – VUHL does amazing things for employees to make them both happy and more productive (free lunch, massages, etc) but makes them really stand out is the bottom line is not a dollar sign. The true bottom line is the lives touched.
Cons – Getting specific feedback about direction and goals can be a little difficult at times.
Advice to Senior Management – Never lose the laid back spirit for corporate buzzwords and policies.

Pros – I have been blown away with the overall awesomeness of Veterans United. The people who work here are energetic, motivated, fun, hard-working, and welcoming. Everyone is happy and excited to be a part of such an amazing and growing company. They are passionate about their jobs and helping people. The values of the company are not just writing on the wall, but a company culture that is visible in everything done here. On top of that, the benefits and perks are something I only imagined was possible in my job: free lunches, free massages, fun outings, free healthy (and unhealthy) food and drinks, Nerf gun wars, contests, prizes, games, family get-togethers, lunch & learns...all of which cause you to be surrounded by happy and productive employees. I'm excited to see where my career here takes me.
Cons – If you cannot have fun at work while being productive this isn't the company for you. Work hard, play hard. It's not the normal mortgage company or any company for that matter--it's a fun and dynamic culture. Change is very normal around here with the expansion of the company so if you don't like change you might reconsider working here.
