    Best Company in Columbia

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsVeterans United is forward-thinking. They hire extremely high caliber people and are rapid to change, which scares some people away but is actually refreshing. There is not some huge bureaucratic process that has to happen for change to take place. The executives are oriented towards the future of the company and committed to employing only the best people. The culture is fun and the work is rewarding.

ConsSlackers beware--if you don't work hard, you'll get let go.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be nice to have paternity leave, but the free health benefits are really nice. Encourage your employees to grow by continuing to offer opportunities like lunch & learns, small groups, and volunteer opportunities but also consider more leadership and development training for non-managers.

Friendly, casual work environment where you feel encouraged to do your very best work everyday.

Online Advertising Intern (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsI got real online marketing experience in online advertising. I know that my position actually benefits the company, rather than running errands like other internships I've had. We have flexible hours and a very casual dress code which allows me to work when it's most convenient, which is ideal as a student. The pay is very competitive.

ConsProjects tend to get repetitive after a few months, but if you want to switch positions, management is very willing to give you new opportunities.

Challenging and rewarding. It's nice to be surrounded by good people every day.

    Senior (Current Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsNew challenges every day, making a difference for veterans, and working with good people.

    ConsYeah, I don't think so.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep listening to your workforce. They've got the most current and relevant feedback about what's going on and will likely have the best ideas for continually making it better.

Go to work in your most comfortable clothes and spend the day enhancing lives.

Loan Approval Consultant (Former Employee) Columbia, MO

ProsFree Monday lunches as well as beverages and snacks daily, casual attire, great benefits package, unlimited opportunity for personal growth, volunteerism promoted, amazing co-workers, and innovation highly encouraged.

ConsIf you aren't adaptable to change, this is not an environment which will suit you; positions are sometimes defined by the employees, so if you don't work well with minimal supervision...you need not apply!

ProsVU has a great culture that inspires creativity.

ConsThe only reason I left was because I had an opportunity that was more entrepreneurial.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing!

Great, agile company that appreciates creativity and hard work.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsEveryone genuinely cares about what they do, and the people they serve. They really stand by their values, and have done a good job at getting the best out of young and ambitious people. I don't know that anyone else in Columbia could get as much quality out of their employees as Veterans United has.

ConsSince they are a young company who likes to promote from within, their mid level managers don't necessarily have the leadership and development skills to make the people under them better. They are developing and are generally strong performers, but don't have the maturity to develop their teams.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the faith in your employees, and work hard to keep the values and vision a focal point for everyone.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
