    Pros

VA Mortgage Center.com is a great place to work. They really know how to take care of their employees. They are very receptive to employee feedback, and really take it into consideration when making plans for the furture. You can really tell they care about how we feel, and want to make sure we as employees are satisfied, which in turn, makes us more productive, and helps the company, as well!

    Cons

Due to the large increase in the need for employees, there have been, it seems, sacrifices to the amount of training new employees receive. Newer hires are thrown in to the mix a little early. (However, there is very much a community atmosphere where fellow co-workers are VERY willing to help whenever they can.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really invest in the training and planning of new hires, so that we can maximize the experience each new hire receives. This will make the new employees feel more at ease once they are "on their own." If they feel they are being successful and feel competent at what they're doing, they're more prone to stick around for a long time.

    A Surprise in Columbia

    Pros

VAMC has been a great surprise for a company to be a part of. The growth is tremendous and the executive team is passionate, knowledgeable and are not afraid to make decisions. They are flexible to change the course if an idea doesn't work but it's not without trying and "going for it".
There are great perks for the employees: Monday lunch, vending, soda machine, massages, great events, monthly fun days. The company encourages work, life balance. The company is young as well as the management and employees, they risk takers and give back to one another and to the community. I'm proud to be associated with the group of people I get to see on a daily basis. I definately don't drag getting to the office, I actually look forward to it.

    Cons

The downsize comes with the rapid growth and the changes that come with it. You have to hang on for the ride, but understand that the ride is a lot of fun. Also, there's a lack of organizational structure so it can be a little confusing where to go or who to go to. The good side is that everyone is so nice and willing to help.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership does a good job celebrating their successes. I would suggest seeking advise from others who can help take the company to the next level whether they are current employees or outside the company. Also never loose site of what made VAMC successful and always stay true to the company culture.

    Pros

There are so many pros to working at VAMortgageCenter.com its hard to list them all. I look forward to going into work everyday. Not only do I enjoy the daily challenge of my work, but the environment is by far the best I've ever been a part of. Everyone in my office comes in everyday ready to work hard and to have a good time. One of the best parts of VAMortgage Center is the way this company takes care of its employees and makes sure that they'll able to fulfill their duties. As others have said, Monday lunches, casual dress, massage Fridays, and regular company events are just a few ways that is accomplished. Basically, I wouldn't think of working anywhere else.

    Cons

Since the company is excellent at keeping up with current trends, it sometimes gets difficult to keep all of the new developments straight. Learning new programs or methods sometimes gets difficult but its all part of making sure your company gets to the top, and then stays there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I absolutely love working here. Thanks for everything you do for the employees and the community!

    Delivering Results with Integrity

    Pros

For me, some of the best reasons to work at VAMC are our company values: Be Passionate and have fun, Deliver Results with integrity, and Enhance Lives every day.

After working for other companies dedicated to acheiving results no matter the cost, it is great to work for a place where passion and integrity are so highly prized, and the end goal is to enhance lives. I have held several positions in my time at VAMC, and found each to be challenging and rewarding.

Mortgage brokers and internet based companies have gotten a bad rap in recent years, but I can say that VAMC breaks the mold in every sense. I have always been encouraged to hold our clients' best interests first, even on the rare occasion when that meant recommending that they pursue another option than our company.

Within the work place, hard work is recognized and rewarded with opportunities for upward mobility, and employees' personal goals and needs are given great importance as well. Group opportunities for volunteering and family events are frequent, and really help develop a team mentality. I have grown both as an individual and as a team member from the company sponsored book studies.

VAMC is different than other companies because the things that make it best come from the top down.

    Cons

As others have said, I feel that the biggest downsides are the frequent changes that come with a rapidly growing company. If a month goes by without visiting the main office, I'm sure to find that many people have moved since I've last been there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think you need to keep doing what you're doing: don't lose sight of your values and passion in the midst of growth, and make sure you do things on purpose- not just because they're the natural next step in the process. Thanks for making VAMC a great place to work!

    Pros

I love the laid back, casual feeling of the company. My superiors are easily approachable on issues and I can trust they have my best interest at heart. We do many great things as a company, starting by providing a quality service to our US Veterans, supporting our community thru chartiable efforts, and celebrating all victories as a company. I enjoy coming to work everyday and have made many friends.

    Cons

Can be somewhat stressful during the peak seasons, but would rather be busy than bored. Sometimes would rather be compensated thru bonuses than several parties a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More of a connection between management and employees. Sometimes I feel expectations get lost in translation and tasks can be overloaded in some departments. But I enjoy being a part of the progress of becoming the best place to have a career!

    Pros

The people are fantastic and bright, there is a ton of potential looking forward, we are able to give back to the men and women who have served our country, free Monday catered lunches, free snacks, monthly 'fun days', amazing parties/outings...I could go on for days!

    Cons

There isn't much of anything that comes as a downside to working at VAMortgageCenter.com. The toughest part is hitting the deadlines and prioritizing the large number of borrowers we have, but those are tough things to deal with at any mortgage company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You guys definitely know what you're doing. I like how change is embraced and how the main focus is looking at the future.

    Pros

We have a very casual environment, several perks that you don't find at other companies and great income potential. I enjoy going to work and we are offering a great service to the men and women who have or are protecting our country. I find it very rewarding and feel that we are really making a positive difference in peoples lives while being able to work for a company that does not have a "corporate America mentality", they invest in their people and allow us to be ourselves, spend time with our famillies and allow you to do some of the things that are important to you. I love it!

    Cons

We don't have full control of the lenders we work with, sometimes it is tough to satisfy all the requirements from underwriting and still close loans. This is not a company issue, it is a condition of the marketplace and the current stability of the mortgage industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I am very satisfied with overall management, I would suggest better communication with changes that happen within the office or company and more frequent updates of the plans and future of the company.

    Pros

The core values of our company mean a lot to me as they reflect a few of my personal values. I truly enjoy coming into work everyday and I think that says a lot about a company. I know many people that dread going to work on a daily basis and I am so glad that I never have that feeling in the mornings.

There are so many benefits to working for VA Mortgage Center.com that there is no way I could list them all here. However, the biggest benefit is being able to help our Veterans who have done so much for us. Of course the Monday lunches, Friday massages and the very casual dress code are some great benefits!!

My headline states this is "my home away from home" as it truly feels like a family here. Even though we have grown tremendously over the past few years I have been here, it still feels like a really big family.

I could not imagine working anywhere else. I have definitely found my career here and look forward to climbing upward in the company. :)

    Cons

Parking tends to be a big issue as the company continues to grow. It's not that parking far away bothers me, but there is limited parking due to all of the surrounding businesses. There are times there is truly no place to park.

I miss not having profit sharing or end of year bonuses. I'm very surprised by this since it is growing so fast. It seems the company spends a LOT of money on parties but doesn't offer a year end bonus or gain sharing of any type.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work! It would be really nice if we had a building big enough for all of us. I sometimes feel since all the managers have offices, they forget about the people sitting in hallways, breakrooms, old closets, etc. Besides that - everything you do is amazing!

    Pros

You are made to feel very at home here. Everyone you work with treats you like they are your friend or family. That goes for management as well. I have never worked at a place where the upper management are open, available and so willing to be a part of the everyday activities of the emplyees. There are always people that are willing to assist you whether it be by answering questions or helping an overwhelmed co worker . We also dress casually which allows you to feel comfortable day in and day out. The company caters in lunch every Monday for all of the offices. We have great work events to bring all of the employees together to mingle whether its the annual golf tournament, bowling event, or Christmas party you get the oppurtunity to meet and talk with people you may normally never see. Probably the very best thing is the companies commitment to the community. I am from here and to see a company so willing to contribute to the people in the area is a beautiful thing.

    Cons

There is not really anything I can complain about at VAMortgageCenter.com. I worked here for 2 years then left for 2 and have now been back for 3 years. During that 5 years of service I have been treated with respect even when I chose to leave after my first stint.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to the management is keep up the good work. You do a great job of finding new ways each year to show your employees they are appreciated and vital to the companies success.

    Pros

VAMC is a great place to work. Management is supportive, balancing work and home life is extremely important. We are very involved in our community and as a whole, the company is more concerned than most companies I've worked for about making a difference in our community. Doing what we do and giving back to those who support our country is awesome!

    Cons

It can sometimes be pretty stressful, but in the end, what we're doing makes such a difference for our borrowers and our community.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

VAMC is growing at a tremendous pace. We have a great niche and are moving in a good direction. Keep it up!
