    Pros

Summer Fridays are a tremendous perk.

    Cons

Once a vibrant creative company (MTV Networks) that fostered growth and unmatched company culture, that has now stagnated into a Corporate machine, with a disposable regard for employees (on-going lay-offs).

    Advice to Management

The continued lay-offs are killing company morale. The company needs to get out of the negative headlines and find a future, or be left behind.

    Pros

Excellent company to work at. Allowed you to be creative and think outside of the box. A huge company, but functioned as a start up for creative input.

    Cons

Change in management lead to changes in the way the company operates. Becoming much more of "big" company and worry to much about senior leaders salary and stock price. MTV, the name on the door has lost it's edge and creativity it is no longer a must watch network. Viacom is spending time and money to make itself look more hip/cool and like a startup rather than invest in its greatest commodity...it's employees!

    Advice to Management

Management needs to focus more on it's employees than spending thousands of dollars on the lobby, rest rooms and floor designs. People make a company GREAT...not the fancy wallpaper in the rest rooms or flowers hanging in the lobby. Invest more in your employees and less on non-sense above!!

    Pros

-The few times I actually got to have real hands on experience
    -Good pay for an internship
    -Nice employees who are helpful

    Cons

My internship had a few issues, the main one being that there were 2 inters at the same time. I thought I would have the advantage, having started first, but that wasn't so. The second the new intern started in the same department, I was given the real "intern work". I got to remove staples from contracts and scan them, not much of an internship/learning opportunity. They would tell me they wanted to train me to do more things, but they seemed to not have the time. I know that they're busy, Viacom is a busy company, but don't have an intern if you can't give them real work to do that will help them advance and really get the full experience. Having 2 interns at the same time doesn't normally happen, from what I heard, but it was a mistake (that's another story for another review).

    Advice to Management

Don't have more interns than you can handle/give work to.
Don't ignore interns or forget about them. We want to learn and get real hands on experience.
Give interns real work, not just mundane tasks.

    Pros

coworkers were nice on the whole, but some tended to use interns (surprised?). they wouldn't even pay for lunch or a metrocard.. cheap

    Cons

guy i was working under was ghetto, rude, and tended to power trip over everything. i did not see the point of the program since the management didnt need or care about intern projects.

    Advice to Management

find some meaningful work for the interns, and pay them something, or just end the program. it seemed like a waste of everyones time

A company that looks to layoff good employees to pay off share holders and make them richer while you have no job.

    Pros

Viacom is a fun place to work. Great benefits, great people and wonderful environment

    Cons

The technical department for Viacom is poorly managed. With technical managers that argue with each other consistently and look to out preform each other's group rather than work together in providing a better network environment for end users.

This type of culture has lead to many technical executives either fired or demoted. Finally HR does not look out for the well being of any employee in I.T or the rest of Viacom. If you've been working for Viacom for a certain amount of years (for example 12+ years), you would be targeted as the next person to layoff because you've reached a salary cap that can't go higher. The result is cutting cost by laying off good workers in order to lower the salary expense and pay shareholders by making them richer while the people that made Viacom a great company have no jobs to support their families.
