Great Learning experience, not so great environment

    Cashier (Current Employee)

ProsLearning what customer service was, how to get to customers efficiently and effectively. Learned to work in a high volume store. Made a lot of friends and personal connections.

ConsVery few promotion opportunities. Hours are super scarce in the summertime. Went from about 32 during winter to about 10 during the summer with open availability. Pay isn't great for the work you do. Only 1 raise during the year.. only 32 cents? Not enough encouragement to the staff. Managers need to stop freaking out at the littlest things.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate better with your stores. Hiring people when the shifts are going to get iffy isn't a great idea.
Find a way to encourage the staff. There is not enough giving back to the people that pay your bills.
Figure out a better way to handle shop lifting. FIX things when they are broken including the sensor scanners at the front of the door. Pay people more. Stop changing management!

    Employee Treatment

Co - Manager (Former Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsTheir are incentives for employees. Good discount, access to new merchandise before it comes out.

ConsThe company is supposed to stand for great customer service, and taking care of their employees. However its a bias company. If you get a management team that like you then you are in. If they don't like you no one has your best interest and they make your working days a struggle. If you call in ethics on them or make a complaint certain managers do things to get you fired.

Advice to Senior ManagementStand by your word and values of the company.

It's an okay place to work

Sales Associate (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsA lot of discounts. The job is very easy to learn. I been there for 5 years and you gain confidences with working with people and costumer service.

ConsAll though it is a very good place to work the management team make it miserable. Its too much pressure and the competition makes things catty.

It's nice, but not what you'd expect from such a glorified company!

    Sales Associate/Cashier (Current Employee)

ProsYou learn a lot about being goal oriented, and are directed by someone in the sales leadership team each segment. It's ALWAYS interesting, especially selling the products we do, and even more interesting when a man comes in to purchase something for the woman in his life. You always have the chance to be professional, move up within the company, and the discount is decent at 30% for store associates. It's a very intimate setting, and customers look to us for advice in many aspects of being confident.

ConsThe schedule is unreliable. I'm constantly scheduled outside of my availability without my permission, and maxed out on hours at 20/week. The pay isn't enough for the jobs we perform there. Sometimes it takes a very long time to close the store. At times, I've been there until the openers came the next morning!

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployees are given the opportunity to create their own schedules. There is an issue of employees not showing up to work because they were scheduled when they are not available, which is at the fault of management not respecting employees availability., and not asking beforehand if it is okay to schedule an employee outside of their availability.

    Vs

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe nature of the job can be fast-paced and fun. Its one of the few places that really emphasizes client-associate relationships and one of the best aspects of the job

ConsManagement makes your experience -- unfortunately in my case I became incompatible with the shift in management and their leadership and management style. Initially, though, I got hired into an awesome, friendly culture and I'm sure there are other VS's that have that same atmosphere

ConsDoes not promote from within which can be frustrating for individuals seeking a management position.

Advice to Senior ManagementAlternate part time employees between weekends.

    From Good to Bad

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIf you are full time you get plenty of benefits like PTO, Health and Dental Insurance.

ConsIt used to be a family-like culture that inspired growth and improvement. I even used to consider making a career out of it. However now there is a new process involved that makes employees only numbers and not humans. The culture of the company really has gone out the window.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe culture really needs to turn around if they want to keep any of their employees.

    Average Retail

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsCompany provides many different training tools to keep associates product knowledgeable and customer service savvy. Managers allow associates to try different aspects of the retail business for develop overall growth.

ConsThe associates are expected to sell credit.. However, after the initial training video, there were not many opportunities for further training and growth.
